Should be in FAQ but ...
1. set up IMAP account login/password/server etc.
2. tick secure box in Advanced settings
3. LEAVE PORT NUMBER AT 143 -- DO NOT CHANGE IT ON ADVANCED TAB!
If it works then fine (and it will also work if you have your own server with self signed certs). If it does not then read on.
The P800 IMAP client does the following steps in secure mode
1) connects to IMAP port 143
2) negotiates capabilities
3) issues STARTTLS and creates a secure session over port 143
4) note that it never ever uses the secure IMAP port 993!
You ISP (or yourself if it's your own server) needs to have an IMAP implementation that handles STARTTLS negotiation. It has to run on port 143.
The problem is that 143 also supports insecure comms, so as an ISP you may have to consider how to prevent 'normal' IMAP sessions i.e. block them if they fail to negotiate TLS.

Any idea if POP3 SSL is supported in P800/P900 and in Symbian Phones in general
