On the free file manager software, how on earth do you select a file for copying/moving/deleting etc? Whenever I click on a file it just opens it and the jog wheel seems to be inactive in the program. :-?

Click on the icon to the left of the file name.

Seb,
I learnt this one today, tap the icon on the left of the file name and not on the file name itself, this will select the file without opening it.

I wouldn't worry Legin. My development server at work is down so I have little else to do at the moment. So I wouldn't say you were slower, probably just busier 😊

Man am I glad someone other had the same problem as me. This drove me stupid. Thanks for the tip. One question remains for me:

Is there a way to rename drive letters so that i can rename "c()" in somthing like "c(main drive)"? I can rename those memory sticks using the SE formating tool but what is with drive c???

Silly newbie question I'm afraid - when I'm looking at the Task List in file manager, what's "safe" to close down, and what should I be leaving well alone? :-?

Thanks guys 😊

I think it's just Applications, Phone and Beamer. Don't think anything else is essential. I usually have Handy Day and the Backdrop file running as well though. You can even close File Manager from within there!

Cheers Bassey - I had horrible visions of closing something that I shouldn't and ending up with an expensive SE-branded paperweight

Actually, the OS won't let you close down anything you shouldn't.
In File Manager it pops up a "can't close" message, and in Handy Day it doesn't give you the option to close it.

So, hammer away shutting things -- bear in mind that some stuff may not actually write back to "disk" unles you choose "exit " from it's menu so you could lose your session state on those apps.
