Is the headphones/mic socket on the top of the P800 a standard one (if so what is it called?) Or is it proprietry and only SE stuff will work with it?
Headphones compatibility

Sorry. Had to go on a help call. Still, broke up the tedium.
Anyway, as far as I know it's a custom job. There was a thread on this two weeks back where someone was trying to adapt a cable to plug it in through their hi-fi using a 2.5mm stereo jack to phono cables. A quick search should locate it. I don't remember the thread coming to any particular conclusion though.
Mind you, I always thought the UK standards were 6.4mm (the kind you'd get on a "proper" hi-fi amp) and 3.5mm (your personal "walkman" type of connector).
It would have to be a custom job as you can use the headphones to answer calls or initiate voice dialing. Plus, of course, it has the mic built in.
However, on an almost related note, the connector at the bottom accepts a standard Ericsson handsfree connector if that's of any use to you?
EDIT
Still bored so found it for you

Kind-of helped, now that I have my 64meg Duo I was looking at using my P800 as a realistic portable music player, but the supplied headphones are no-where near as good as my Sony ones, so really I was looking for an adaptor.
the 2.5mm connector is much more common for phone kits these days.
the *connector* is the same as the one for the nokia 8310, for instance, though that *appears* to be mono, even though it seems to have the same number of channels. The nokia headset seems to work with the P800 though.
On the other hand, my DECT phone has the same connector, but the headset for that didn't seem to work with the P800...
It really ought to be possible to get an adapter that's effectively just a cable with a microphone and a normal 3.5mm headphone socket for you to plug a normal set of headphones into.

Ahh, I found a simple if stupid solution to that. As I only have 64MB of space available, I compressed the MP3's down with a sample rate of 48kbps so that an hour takes up around 16MB! Then, the sound quality is so low (but still fine for listening to whilst walking to work and back through traffic), the supplied handsfree\headphones are no longer a limiting factor and I can get a few hours of MP3's on the card.
Currently have John Lee Hooker - Chill Out! playing.
you can use any 3,5 to 2,5 mm STEREO-Adaptor for hot, sexy music! You get it in almost every electronic shop!
Just forget: Look for TWO black rings on it, otherwise (with one) it will be a mono-adaptor!
lol, ingenious.
... even if that does work, you'd have to unplug it to answer the phone...
Agreed woozle, what is needed is a unit with the mic and button with a 3.5mm jack for standard headphones. Oi! SE take note!
May be this is what you want?

Well, I have the hbh30 and I have gotten it to work with MP3's from my PC/LAPTOP. There are new drivers for the PC/LAPTOP which allows you to connect to a bluetooth headset already and uses that as a normal headset for the pC which allows you to listen to MP3s.
So what we need for the P800 are new drivers from SE to allows such a connection with the P800 to enable us to transmit Music.
Heres a translated site of something close to what we all want, but will not get since we already have an MP3 player :

Well after a searched, I think this is much better:

Are you sure it works? I tried it on mine and the volume is really low and sometimes I hear a ticking sound. But I can talk communicate still at a very low volume 😞 Othe party heard some feedback too 😞
I bought an 8310 headset bec I thot I could mod it and make a 4.5mm female jack at the end so I can plug in better headphones and make another one with an RCA tip so we can plug it into any stereo component or amplifier. It turns out the Nokia headset has a mony connection and one channel is splitted into two earpieces. Im not sure but this could probably be why the volume is low when I tested it on my P800. I havent and will not open the P800 headset unless I will be able to get a spare. I am not sure if it is stereo or not but one thing I know is they play real loudl sounds 😊
NO.
Nokia ones are definitely not compatible with P800.

So, if you had two HBH-30's (or 60's in my case) ... do you reckon we could get stereo? 😃
The 2.5mm connector on the Nokia headsets is the same as ours, but the wiring is different.
The ticking sound means that the wrong connections are used.
I made my own adapter by dismembering a Nokia headset and connecting it to a 3.5mm female stereo connector.
It took some trials and errors, but once I got the right wiring worked out, there was no ticking, the sound was full stereo, and it sounded great!
I use sony in-ear earphones that have a special silicone caps that block out unwanted noises.
The only downside is that if the phone rings, I have to pull out the jack in order to answer the phone.
