[UPDATE] Stacker 1.01

6 replies · 4,351 views · Started 01 April 2003

Stacker for Nokia 92xx communicator was updated to v.1.01. Now compresses more stuff like OPL, Java and vb apps but also compresses the contacts database.[get it here]

New in Stacker version 1.01

- Stacker is available in English and German now.
- Now non-native applications (OPL, Java and VB apps, etc) are fully
supported and can be compressed. (To affect it you need to repack these apps
if any)

- Compact Contacts Database command was added. What is this for? Stacker can
compact contacts database by removing unused blocks in its files
(defragging). These blocks appear when editing or deleting data in such
files. Compacting will not only save some space on disk it will even speed
up working with your contacts!

- Compact memory command was added. It will reclaim some executable memory
from the system. Now there's no need to restart your device to get the
maximum amount of memory available.

There's no need to unpack all compressed applications, just install this
version over the previous one.

I already have v 1.00 installed on C (full paid for and registered). I think it is a great utility. Many of my apps are compressed with it.

So, I downloaded v1.01 and tried to install it. I got the message ~"v1.00 already installed do you want to replace it with v1.01?" and accepted. I then got a message:

"Cannot create a file when that file is already exists".

this kills the install. I then checked and found that v1.00 had been uninstalled by this point. There were two files remaining in c\system\apps\stacker and I dleeted them all but no difference. I can't see anything lurking anywhere else. I have tried installing v1.01 & 1.00 on both C and MMC. I have restarted and unloaded AppMan - I always get the same message.

Any ideas how to get out of this mess or do you recommend simply taking this up with the authors?

In pro - it's not proving easy. Until we get to the bottom of this, my recommendation is to unpack any stacker archived files before installing the new version. It is also worth considering uninstalling v1.00 before installing v1.01

a little backup of the files in stacker map is enough to ensure that your data isn't lost. No need to decompress all of them.
by deleting your files from the map you doomed your compressed apps :s

Uninstalling Stacker should work indeed.

Maybe something went wrong because you moved your install files to d:? (seem to remember that you do this)

Anyway good luck!

Dazler, thanks for your support. I don't actually move install files from C to D so it wasn't that. I have uninstalled a lot of apps off the MMC, re-installed on C and compressed with Stacker - makes life a lot easier when switching MMC's around.

I had very good support from Symbianware. 😃 In the end, I came home and re-installed from my home PC (running w98 vs work XP) and it went perfectly first time. 😃 😃

Big sigh of relief - I hate to think how long a complete re-install would take me.

So, it seems there may be a problem with the .sis installer on the PC (probably the most likely now) - I'll have to re-install PC Suite - or some interference from XP.

😊
good to hear that. 😊

You can still copy the sis files to your communicator and install from the communicator. This way you don't have to reinstall pc suite again 😉
