The Source Code traler included on the phone looks great - however I am unable to play any other HD movies.
The High Quality option in YouTube makes no difference.
I had some HD moies which I put on my phone - one in an .avi format did not play, the other in an MP4 format (same as Soure Code) just dislays a broken video file when I attempt to play it.
Would be nice to see some HD content!!
Extension alone doesn't mean it'll be playable on S^3. .avi and .mp4 are just containers. Streams included in them can be encoded with plethora of codecs.
So how di I get them to play? Any recommended converters out there?
To avoid the time-consuming re-encoding I would suggest putting the videos into a MKV container.
Install MKVtoolnix http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html#windows
Load up mkvmerge.exe and check file->options->Diasable header removal compression (this needs to be selected else it will create incompatible files)
Now just drag the input avi/mp4 file in, and save as an mkv file..
ziggyball.
I followed your instructions and tried to mux an mp4 in hd but still it says Unable to play media file. I checked the box you mentioned and besides that well there is nothing much you can do with the options on the software.
Am I doing something wrong here?
as far as i know n8 will not play mkv files or anything over 2 gig in size😡
hmmm, mine does 😊 3GB+ mkv's with 5.1 AC3 sound and 720p h264 video..
The only limitation I can think of is the N8 only supports FAT32 which has a 4GB file limit.
The mkv support seems okay to me - just make sure you don't use compressed headers...
I haven't found the perfect sweet spot for the encode yet... but I am currently playing with mkv rather than m4v container..
