Connecting via IR to a laptop running W2K

Guys

I'm on the road a lot so synching my P800 to my laptop is really important and I'd like to do this via IR but I cannot get it to work.

Once I've switched on IR on the P800, my laptop recognises the phone and they 'talk' briefly and then the connection drops leaving the IR icon running in the systray on the laptop.

I've disabled the option in Settings>Control panel>Infra red which allows you to send images from the PC and this problem happens wherever I am so it's not local interference.

I tried a search but couldn't find anything so hope you can help.

Cheers

have you change the option on the p800 infrared settings to PC Connect as opposed to Modem?

😃

I've got this working OK. Every time I do it I have to do the following:-

1. Turn on the infra-red on the P800 (I use the 10 minutes option)
2. put it near the laptop infrared port
3. click on the <-//-> symbol in the system tray (link properties) and put a check in the infrared box - then click close in that dialogue
4. It talks for a bit more and then the P800 icon apperas in the system tray
5. You then click on the P800 icon and select "synchronise"

Like the other person said you need to make sure the P800 is setup so that infrared is used for "PCconnect" as opposed to "modem"

Good luck

Well the rest of the above is standard procedure for any connection...

what i posted was the trick to make sure ir works as it's supposed to (for the hundreds of you who will obviously read this through a search rather than posting another question on it)

lol
