TipicME connection problems

7 replies · 2,132 views · Started 02 April 2003

I have installed TipicME on my P800 but cannot connect at all - the bar just sits at 0% and then an error box pops up telling me to check my GPRS settings.

I am on the Vodafone network and GPRS is set up just fine.

Can anybody offer advice please?

Apologies if this sort of thing has already been posted, I did a search but couldn't find anything relevant.

Thanks in advance,

Reefer

Hope this helps 😊 It was the first one on the search list 😊

Things to check:
The username and passwor sent bytipic to your email after registration.
Then the username you use should be without the @tipic

Have you tried reinstalling your tipic?
Does your GPRS connection work for the built in browser or opera?

make sure you call vodafone and ask for your internet gateway to be activated. i've been struggling to get opera and tipicme to work on my phone for a week already, only just done it today. what it used to be was i got the built in browser to work, it surfs both wap and web pages, but opera and tipicme doesn't even though i've set up the internet account properly, what i found out was that my internet over GPRS for my phone wasn't activated, so i called vodafone and i had to turn the phone off for an hour and hey presto! it works well now, although i'm not sure if internet over GPRS is free ( WAP over GPRS is free with vodafone for a month or two yet, i think)
also for tipicme sometimes it stops at 80% which i don't know why, have to reconnect a couple of time then it would work.
hope this helps,

tipicme is a simple service but the posts above are virtually correct.

The only omission I would say is that it really *is* worth getting the PC client and logging in and getting that working first.

But I would agree with the above in that it's most likely to be your gprs gateway which is at fault.

Look at your GPRS apn and if its wap.voda.co.uk then theres your fault.

Do a search for vodaphone in the other forum (wap mms & gprs settings or whatever its called) and you'll see my post explaining it.

And also.. I don't think it does hang at 80%, I think at 80% it starts to pull down the user list so its a lot slower at this point. If there is a gprs signal problem that would explain it.

I never managed to connect with TipicMe. myBuddies and everything else works fine. My is hanging at 80% everytime and then nothing happening. Tried the older ver and then the last with same result. Maybe it can depend on my Network Operator but gave up at moment. The reason it takes long time to loading because of the contacts is not true because Ive just 3 on mine.

OK, thanks to all who replied, it was my GPRS settings after all and I am now able to connect and use this excellent little program!

Brilliant for me as I am on the move all the time in my job and need to IM people in the USA for assistance.

Thanks again people! 😊
