N8 not charging

Hi,

I sent by N8 to a Nokia care point in October 2012 as the bottom piece that enters the battery compartment had broken in one corner and thought I'd better get it fixed before the warranty expired in November 2012. When it was returned I checked it turned on and reloaded some of the software, however I then requested an unlock code from orange UK and that was the end of that as I had already made my sim into a mini sim for my new Nokia 808. Although I have not yet received an unlock code from orange (another story altogether) I thought I would check to see If any updates are available, however when I turned my phone on the battery was nearly depleted.

When trying to charge it, the battery icon doesn't change to indicate it is charging, I have tried many different Nokia chargers both micro USB and the mini jack. When I plug it into my laptop it recognises it as a Nokia N8 and connects to Nokia suite OK. I have also tried starting the charge on my 808 and then plugging the charger back into the N8.

Has anyone seen this kind of thing before?

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Could a connector be disconnected beneath the bottom cover leading into the battery compartment?

Is is possibly the battery that is the problem, is it worth putting it in my 808 to see if it will charge in that?

Many thanks,

Robin.

If your Mobile phone is under warranty period than you might be get repaired mobile phone but, there is no possibilities for replacement and get new one phone. In warranty period if your phone is older by 6 months. So, Nokia care just help you to repair it. Charging problem is not a big issue so, you will easily get solution from there.

When the battery is not the longer the better, after the battery is full of no protection circuit which should stop charging, the battery will affect performance because of fever or overheating

it could be either the battery or the n8 mainboard. Did the baeery charge after you got it back from nokia care in october last year?

You could try charging the n8 battery in the 808 for a bit, then transfer battery to see if it will continue charging in the n8. If the 808 cannot charge, simple fix would be to get a new battery for n8. If battery charges in 808, but not in n8 when adapter or usb inserted, suspect the fuse on the mainboarrd is gone. This fuse is surface mounted on the mainboard and is hard and not easy to change or fix. The usual reason for blown fuse is due to either over voltage, or wrong polarity from using aftermarket chargers with your nokia phone.

If the fuse is blown, find a friend that has good knowledge of electronics, and soldering skill. Otherwise send to nokia care once more.
