Hi Folks,
This idea came out of a discussion on IR printing in another thread, but it fired my curiosity, so I thought I'd post the question as a separate thread just out of academic interest really, to see what the Gurus on this site think:
Is it at least theoretically possible to drive a TWAIN scanner from a Communicator?
I 'm guessing that if one were to use an adaptor to convert the 9-pin cable connector on the Nokia interfacing cable to a parallel port, then all one would theoretically need is an appropriate Symbian TWAIN driver (maybe including something to set up the scan mode & area), & using the approriate data transfer protocol, the phone should be able to receive the scanned output as if it were a normal file transfer. What do the experts think?
Actually, the point was motivated by the availability of a scan head for the 92xx-compatible Canon BJC-80/85 printers, so my original question was whether or not it would be possible to drive them in scanning mode over an IR link as well, but that'd clearly also depend on whether or not the printers could send scanning data via their IR ports. I just thought it'd be quite neat to be able to be able to do document prep, printing & scanning all with a communicator & a cigar box-sized Canon unit.
I also suppose that if someone produced a TWAIN solution for Symbian, it could be adapted for Series 60 & UIQ devices, & probably adapted for Bluetooth as well. It'd be quite a neat way to acquire documents/images without all that tedious mucking about with fax machines...
