I am currently using the free version of JoikuSpot and see it works by setting up an ad-hoc connection. Can anyone tell me if the full version does the same? If it does are there any other solutions for sharing my 3G connection?
I go back into halls next week without WiFi and was planning on getting the full version to use as my own router for my Microsoft Surface but have found that Windows RT does not recognise ad-hoc networks
To my knowledge, both the paid and the free joiku spot use ad-hoc, which works with most laptops and operating systems, abeit android.
Think the paid version lets you do VPN, secure sites, and now quotas for users that have access to your joikuspot.
I have the joikuspot premium version and I can tell you that I barely use it because only ad-hoc connections are allowed even on premium version. The Wifi Full router limitation comes from the OS. I have seen in the Joikuspot help that Symbian does not allow to act as router like on Android devices.
I do really miss this feature on any Symbian phone. What I do is to connect the phone thru the USB cable and use Nokia Suite to share the internet connection. This works much better. Another way I tried is to use the bluetooth connection with Nokia Suite. The problem is that I don't know if my bluetooth dongle does not work fine but the connections are really slow. Maybe with a bluetooth 3.0 or a better dongle this issue is not present.
If you can I would recommend you to use a portable 3g router instead of the phone.
The problem with ad-hoc connections is that are not allowed in a lot of devices in US and other countries.
