Greetings all, last week I was given a "new" N8 and as it is my first smartphone I need some help getting it up and running as good as it should be i.e. upgrading to Belle.
I was recommended allaboutsymbian.com as a friendly helpful place. The Belle update seems to have been chaotic.
I've spent a couple of day reading articles and browsing Symbian forums with no luck finding a step-by-step guide how I can upgrade to Belle when it is not showing up as an update. I have read the Nokia webpages and the instructions. I have Nokia Suite 3.7.22 running on this W7 pc (I built myself).
This phone has sat in a drawer for 18 months since my 80-year old father-in-law bought it in Malaysia SIM-free, tried it a few days, couldn't get the hang of it and got himself an iPhone.

After a *#7370# I did a Symbian Anna update 2/2
Then a Symbian Anna service pack.
The software updates remaining are:
Nokia Belle demo
Social
Time Zone Update.
In Noika Suites I updated:
Important Update Available:
Symbian Anna update 1/2.
So what next? Can I format the N8 and do a clean install like a pc?
Have you considered Phoenix phone updated software and manually force belle into the phone? This could be the solution if you want to be Belle.
Sounds good. Anyone got a tried and trusted How To for using Phoenix Service Software? I've no experience with torrents.
no need for torrents, there is a good site with instructions on how to install. think n8fan club has god instructions on howto there
I would say that updating mobile phone is great idea and it's a very simple process. Just go to the Nokia's official website and update your mobile phone via update option. You can also visit Nokia care and they will simply update your phone too. If your phone is under warranty period you might be not to pay them.
Ray, believe me, I have tried the official methods to upgrade my phone but they do not work. That is why I am posting here.
I've tried two W7 computers with the latest Nokia Suite, I've tried using the software update function on the phone, I've tried soft factory reset, hard reset, everything. Nothing works to get it to upgrade.
I am also nowhere near a Nokia Care Centre.
bought a green one new last week (usa). I had no problems getting it updated to belle through w7 using nokia suite.
however my product code is 059D110.
software version is 111.030.0609 which care suite seems to think is the latest version... and it looks about right to me.
