Could someone post either the settings or a screen dump from a p800 showing the settings for the internet GPRS ap on Vodafone UK
Have also heard that it won't work on their starter package, that you need to be subscribed to their GPRS package with bundled amount of KB.
Can anyone confirm this ?, have talked to Vodafone but they haven't got a clue, most of their staff no nothing about GPRS and say it only supports Wap.
Basically you have 3 internet accounts for vodafone - all should be set up when you get the phone, but here you go.
WAP
user name [email protected]
password user (i think - vodafone supplied it but I forgot)
address wap.vodafone.co.uk
get ip and dns automatically
no proxy
no ppp extensions
normal authentication
MMS
user name [email protected]
password user (i think - vodafone supplied it but I forgot)
address wap.vodafone.co.uk
get ip and dns automatically
no proxy
ppp extensions
normal authentication
WEB
user name web
password web (again vodafone supplied it but I forgot)
address interenet
get ip and dns automatically
no proxy
ppp extensions
normal authentication
you might want to set up one for MMS, but the settings are the same as WAP.
I started on the basic package and it all worked fine. They have had some difficulty configuring accounts recently, so if you still have problems get them to reset the GPRS on your account and it should work.
Remember, any auto settings will only set the WAP account as above - copy it for the mms and enable ppp extensions. Web - forget it, they don't seem to understand!!
Thanks
Just finally spoke to someone at Vodafone who said you CAN NOT access the GPRS internet AP on the Vodafone GPRS Starter tariff, you need to be on a minimum tariff of GPRS 1 which costs 7.49 a month
I had problems setting up the MMS account with vodafone but in the end they just sent me a text to update the sim on my phone. Everything worked ok after that.
My MMS and Wap GPRS settings work fine, it is the Internet access point through GPRS I have been struggling with. Confiq messages from Vodafone just set up the MMS and Wap settings.

She is talking BS, I am using Opera using the Internet Gateway (APN) with no problems at all, and i'm not on a payed GPRS tarrif at all. There are two types of Starter pack, depending on which tarrif your on, if you pay over 30 per month for line rental the GPRS tarrif is cheaper. I forget the names of them, with one being GPRS Starter.
Just ring them up and ask them to activate your Internet APN on your account, don't ask for settings or about tarrifs.
Thanks Jordon, have just spoken to my provider and they have reset all my APN's and told me to try in an hour, if poss can you tell me your settings, or are they as in the above posts.
Yahoo it fianally works, thanks for all your help everyone, huge phone bills here I come

I got the p800 and a siemens s55 and vodafone were so unhelpful and clueless that after the 5th letter of complaint I switched to orange on the basis that they could not fulfil their advertising claims. 😞
I didn't find them unhelpful, they just haven't got a clue about smartphones. They think GPRS is for Wap only, I finally got it going after 7 calls to Vodafone and 6 calls to Cellular Operations my service provider, finally I persuade one of them to talk to one of their Technical guys and he added what he called the email apn to my account and lo and be hold I could now access the via the internet ap as well as the wap. All smiles now. 😃 😃 😃 😃
Hang on, guys! You wanna tell me that you can access your email without signing up to this stupid vodafone email thingie?
I tried to setup my btinternet email account on their GPRS wap settings, no joy.
But, if they're clueless, they'll have to feel the pain...
Yes you can access your BT email via GPRS, but first you need to get your service provider to enable the internet/email apn (read previous posts in this thread), then you must create the access point on your phone.
Who is your provider ? 😮
I bought my phone from a Vodafone shop - I guess that means it's vodafone direct?
Yes i would imagine that would be the case, phone them on 191 and ask for the internet apn to be enabled.
Yep, they did it a few minutes ago and they enabled it for me. Now I must figure out what GPRS settings to use - vodafone GPRS web doesn't work, vodafone GPRS wap doesn't work....
make a new connection with the following settings
user name: web
password: web
address: internet
get ip and dns automatically
no proxy
ppp extensions
normal authentication
Thanks, Ratkat, I appreciate your time. I'll try it when the headache is gone...
😃
I got it to work!!! Thanks Ratkat, now we'll have to steel ourselves for the phone bill!!
