9290 & internet using T-mobile

I just ordered a 9290 off Ebay.

I assumed you could just connect to the internet like any other internet enabled phone, but it's sounding like you need an ISP and you dial up?

Wouldn't that be alot slower? I think T-Mobile is 144k, but wouldn't dialup on the 9290 be 14.4k?

I guess I'll be selling it as soon as I get it.

I figured I could get the Tzones but it sounds like I need to pay for an ISP instead and get slower service. I was going to wait for better Pocket PC Phones, but I liked the wider screen and keyboard on the 9290.

Does anyone know of a PDA/phone that can actually go out on internet through the cell provider?

Since the 9290 does not have GPRS, you have to use an ISP for browsing. I use www.access-4-free.com ($4.95 set up fee but 10 hrs free /mth then a max of $10 if over the 10 hrs). But you are correct it is slow... 9600 bps. Not really good for surfing but it is okay for receiveing and sending email. Since I am not a big surfer on handhelds in general, I don' trealy miss it. I figure that is why I have cable internet😉

You will find the 9290 to be a very powerful handheld with plenty of available apps. Phone quality is very good too. Although I do use a backup phone when going out. The 9290 is a little heavy.
