T-Mobile Internet Error - Help Appreciated

9 replies · 2,973 views · Started 11 April 2003

Hello, I recently got my P800 and bought an extensive internet service through T-Mobile. I spent some time with tech-support and they gave ne 2 different internet connections to use: One uses the internet, one supports WAP. The internet one works great, especially with the Opera browser. However, when I use the WAP one it works - until the following occurs: When logged onto T-Zones I can surf around until I go to log onto AIM or check a CNET headline, at which point a 45 second timeout is innitiated and I get an error telling me to check my WAP Gateway. Does anyone have any knowledge on how to get this working? Thank you very much, in advance, for your help.

On a side note: My main goal here is to get AIM working on the P800. If anyone knows a better way to get it working, I'd love to hear it.

If your main goal is to use AIM then you should try Tipic. It's an IM product for the P800 that lets you do IMs for AOL, Yahoo, and MSN all from the same program. You can find it at www.tipic.com.
Are you going to WAP sites when you're using the WAP profile? I get the same error when I try to browse a regular website with the WAP profile. I'm assuming you're using wap.voicestream.com for your WAP profile and either internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com for your internet profile.
What internet package did you get? I'm using the 50M package right now. So far I haven't gone over my limit.

You are correct to believe that I am using those as Gateways. Could you please try and connect to mywap.voicestream.com and go to Email & IM then AOL and try to log on - tell me if it works.

Thanks for the tip on the new IM program, I hope it works well. It will only use up as many KB of data I sent as text messages, correct?

Once again, I thank you for your advice!

I tried loading mywap.voicestream.com using Opera and the built in browser with no luck. Then I looked at my bookmarks in the built in browser and I have one that is titled "T-Mobile GPRS." I clicked on it and it loaded TZones. I checked the page information and it showed 10.168.224.227/top#main. I think this bookmark was created by the profile that was emailed to my phone from the SonyEricsson site. Once I loaded this site I was able to log into AIM. I was using the wap.voicestream.com profile for all of this.
I just logged into Tipic and it looks like it used around 5k to sign in. I don't think it uses any bandwidth unless you are communicating with someone. Check it out; I think you'll like it.

How do I change the service for Tipic? When I try to logon is still says the server is Tipic.com, even though I want it to be logging onto AIM. How do I change what service I'm connecting to (tipic, AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc)?

You have to create a user account with Tipic, which is used to log into Tipic. Once you have logged in, you select the "Register Transport" option from the TipicME menu. This brings up another menu that lets you select the IM service you want to register. Put in your AIM ID and password and you should be good to go.

I now have it working, although it is very buggy: Oftentimes it won't connect, or say I'm connected when I'm not, or not say I'm connected when I am, or not sign me off when even the phone is turned off. Do you also have these bugs?

I haven't noticed the issues that you have, but to be honest I haven't used it exensively. I normally use it when I'm travelling and only sign in when I need to speak to someone.

i have noticed when using tzones aim that it takes a long time to load and half of the time i also do get an error try restarting your phone, it occasionaly as worked for me.

I have the default GPRS-GPRS profile with T-Mobile and it seems to work fine. I am still having issues with secure socket sites, but am sure I can figure that one out as well. 😃
