Anyone got MAILBOX to work successfully?

22 replies · 4,164 views · Started 13 April 2003

I keep getting GENERAL ERROR and I've tried a few POP3 email providers;
YahooAustralia (which uses YahooUK's pop3 servers)
LycosMail UK (I can't access it through Outlook so I'm not suprised my phone couldn't)

but the moment it connects (note: i'm using WAP over GSM and NOT GPRS) it gets a general error when trying to connect.. it says try again and then disconnects? any ideas? has anyone gotten it to work before?

jeff.

i manged to get it working the first 2-3 times and after that it's general errors all the way...called my operator, she told me i wasnt the only case. it happened with several 7650 users and 3650 too.

told me to switch off and on fone and try gain. she told me it could be a firmware problem and asked me to try other pop emails...no luck,
so must be firmware prob

got mine working since day1, using both IMAP4 and POP3. i had some errors before, until i did this:

>disabled security
>allow all for headers

Mine's working fine. Try using the smtp of your network and the pop3 of your email account 😊

it's the same for my network... both starts with mail and pop and has the same domain

both starts with mail and pop and has the same domain

mail.exampledomain.com or pop.exampledomain.com or pop3.example.com are incoming servers

outgoing server should be smtp.exampledomain.com or mail.exampledomain.com

disable APOP secure login

yep my outgoin server is mail.singnet.com.sg

incomin is pop.singnet.com.sg

cant connect to retrieve but can send

secured login has always been disabled

hhmmm then your settings are all correct if you can send e-mail.

Cannot retrieve or receive e-mail, that means its a network problem not 3650 problem because I and others can send and receive.

Give singnet a call 😉 tell them to reboot their gprs server
😉

Mine works all the while... No problem when i use Mailbox when i'm on a 7650 or 3650..

If you send mail trou an ISP then you MUST be conected to that isp else they will not let you send throu their servers.
Just make a new dialup account using your ISP's details and set you mailbox to use that dialup account.

Thou that is slow and you probably want to use GPRS for mail.

If you connect via GPRS then you will not be able to send throu your ISP server - you must send throu your network operators server, or find a public server to send throu, or ask you IT guy at work if you can send throu his server, he will need your GPRS IP address range - there are many webpages that will tell you your surfing IP.

Best 😊

it's ok i check most of my emails in ofice and i can still check my pop emails using thr operator wap site...just kinda irritated that i have this on my phone but cant use it...

dan, singnet sucks

What I did was, since I'm using a different email account and not the network email service, I changed my incoming mail server, which is the pop3, to my email account. Example, my email provider is INFOCOM so my pop3 is pop.info.com.ph but for sending emails, I use my network service, for example my network is GLOBE TELECOM, so my smtp is smtp.globenet.com.ph... everything seems to be working fine 😊 But you better try calling the network you're subscibed in 😊

In my case, i use my providers SMTP and IMAP servers. Don't have problems at all.

Except lately (started Monday), i can't retrieve my mails. Though yesterday (Tuesday), was able to, twice. So i think it's a network problem. I'm on the GLOBE network. Whoever's using GLOBE GSM out there in the PH, are you also having problems?

I just checked now, problems still.

😊

So is it true that you'll only get the mailbox to work if your network provider has the correct kind of wap/gprs access ? ie- most wap/gprs is not designed to give proper internet access, but only a limited access via their gateway to allow you to browse WAP sites ?

Here in the Uk it seems that O2 have made available settings specifically to make sure you can access pop3 emails, but I havent managed to any for vodafone yet so i still get operation timed out - And I've tried with 3 different Vodafone configured settings- Wap, grps wap & mobile internet gprs( this last only works in conjunction with a PC to run vodafone's own connection software to allow you to browse internet with a laptop or pc via your phone)

If anyone does manage to get vodafone settings that work, please let us all know !

Dylan

It works on voda.

I use their internet gprs account.
send mail throu their vizzavi mail server and collect from Pipex.

The phones at work- i'll pull the settings off on Tuesday and post them up.

Best 😊

Cheers, I used the same settings and it always failed to connect to my mailbox.

BUT, I have managed to get it to work a different way- forget using your service providers connection for it.

I signed up to a normal Pay as you go internet service provider ( Virgin.net) and simply put in their dialup number to connect to with the username/password for my virgin account. Then set the outgoing mail server to theirs and now it connect and downloads email fine and sends fine too. And of course the call casts for this are included in my free 250 minutes of calls every month. Hooray.

Not too sure how fast it is connecting at though- do vodafone support high speed GSM Data connections ?

I think GLOBE doesn't allow connecting through GPRS anymore. Coz I tried using the internet connection and it's working well. I hate globe for doing this! Now, checking my mail isn't free anymore!
