converting asf,wmv,real to mpeg

It's illegal to make a program that can convert asf/wmv into anything Microsoft made it so. VirtuaDub for example had to remove support for asf convertion in his latest release. Some programs however "forgot" to mention that they could convert asf to avi/mpg.

I have a movie which plays on my desktop in real one player, but if i transfer it (1.4 meg) it says clip not playable.
I've tried using virtual dub and another prog called Tinra005 to convert the format but i lose the picture, sound stays perfect but no image. Even If uncompressed ( 114 meg!!) i still lose the picture.
Is it possible to alter the sampling rates of the two versions 'cos they dont quite match (9.36-9.60)fps. Or are the sampling rates fixed?
Any help gratefully accepted.

B.T.W. Dazler. The little problem i had with the reg. files could only be solved by creating a new profile on PC and starting the whole registry process from scratch. It still fails to connect on the old settings but it's perfect on the new ones.

Maybe it could help checking the rm file for errors and fixing it. It could be that the realone player of the 9210 ain't that tolerant as the one on your desktop
