Version R2D is out!

46 replies · 11,545 views · Started 16 April 2003

Just got my phone upgraded to R2D, check the attached pictures 😊

Could you post the changes made from the previous. And by the way do you receive sms reports?

Just called my closest SE Service Point, and they told me that their newest uppgrade was of the version R2A, and its newly arrived..

What is the version of the Organizer and the CDA of the new R2D firmware ? (if anyone of them is R2A then it could be the same upgrade)

If the firmversion of the phone my SE dealer have is indeed R2A what kind of improvements does that firmware have over R1D?

Thanx in advance
Cove

Just spoke to SE UK and CRC Nottingham, both confirm that they received R2D yesterday and can upgrade the phone from today 😃

Well, Orginizer and CDA are R2A16 and R3A12

About the Delivery report, check the picture.

I'm from Jordan btw 😉

:-? Am I blind? . .just got my phone upgraded . .but where are all the "new features"? The only thing I find is som new images and som new features regarding image viewing (you can get a fullscreen preview), and some new lightning features when taking a picture . . .

I earlier got som info that you would get themes handling etc . . .did they take that back???

The UIQ 2.1 upgrade is NOT confirmed by SE, and therefore should only be treated for what it is, a rumour.

The company behind UIQ(Sweden based I think) is infact working on a new UIQ version(UIQ 2.1), but SE can choose if they wan't to implement this new version into the P800 or not, or even if they just wan't to implement some of the new functions.

The upgrade you just got is still a major update though, because it isn't just a bug-fix but they have actually added new features. I think people should be happy with what they've got and stop this konstant complaining.

Anyone know what we're supposed to do about firmware upgrades in the US yet? I've used the web form to contact S-E to see where the hell any service points are to drop my P800 off at. I also know someone who works for S-E in the US and she can't seem to find anything out about it either. I think I may be out of luck, especially since no service providers in the US offer the P800 yet.

I haven't got any upgrades yet since I bought the phone in December, and some of the bugs are really grating away at me. I'll still love it anyways 😊

i am new to p800 can any one can help me with this, can you show me were i can load mp4 video clips or software were i my avi or any othe format in to mp4 video clips please. thank you

So its official, this is great,i cant wait to get my hands on a p800.

Yes you can access 'Audio' in the flip closed mode, but there is no T9

I'll post a picture later, when i'm on my PC 😉

What about the data on the phone when you do an upgrade? Is it converted during the upgrade or do you have to restore a backup?

Well, I might be over-sceptic, but I don't believe in oeprating system upgrades. I only believe in "clean" new installations.

By restoring a backup, you would never now in detail, if you are not bringing back a bug of the past version that would otherwise have been fixed.

My suggestion therefore. Copy your "important" files such as MP3s, screen saver pictures, etc. with the internal file manager to the memory stick or with the PC based one to your PC, get the upgrade and copy these files selectively back.

As for address book, etc: Do a full synchronization to the empty address book.

And the applications you had installed: If you are like me, you had installed too many. In the mean time you know which ones you will never use, so just install the few ones you really like.

At least I did it this way ... and as I knew what I wanted to configure from having it done not so long ago, it didn't take me too long.

Urs is absolutely right, this whole process is now virtually identical to reinstalling your PC OS or changing your PC - some of us have done this more times than we'd care to remember, both personally and professionally 😮

I'd go further, in fact - I'd suggest you go through the config screens for the various apps and write down (yes, paper!) your key config settings - this especially applies to communications settings e.g. GPRS access points, WAP and MMS URL's, POP3/SMTP settings (it's a really good time to find out if you ever kept a record of that gobbledygook password your ISP gave you when you set up your Netdialin two years ago 😃 ). And check you still remember how to get over-the-air settings from your network for things like picture messaging. All of this can save a lot of oops after you've done the upgrade and everything is clean and empty - and doesn't work!

I've just had my P800 upgraded! 😃 So far no problem. Upgrade is as what Special has posted in this thread.

I'm not sure if this is old news but... while I was the service center, I saw that they were also selling screen protectors for P800. Theirs were a lot cheaper, it was only S$15 which comes to about (going for my P800 - worldmate for exchange rate) US$8.48 or GBP5.37 per pack. One pack contains 2 pieces, which means its actually only S$7.5 per piece. 😮

I asked if they have a sample unit with this protector in place. They showed me one, and it looks almost similar to the brando, except that SE's protector is sooooo much cheaper.

Well, I'm not too impressed from what supposedly is a "major release":

- No default value for SMS receipts (every phone has it)
- Not corrected the font size error in the phone (looses the zoom setting when switched off)
- Almost no visible change or add-on
- ...

... something I would call a "minor bug fix release"!

And then one really annoying thing. They seem unable to provide me a Spanish language file here in Switzerland (they claim there is no separate file as there was in R1x and they would have to set the phone up again - but can't do it, because they don't have Spanish here). Are there any language files for R2x that could be downloaded from somewhere?

Hi,

Have just tested the BLUETOOTH settings and i have some GREAT NEWS!!!
Now if u set the bluetooth to AUTOMATIC, it's really working!!! The previous version doesn't seems to work... This is very useful if u have a bluetooth handsfree... to save battery life!!!

Mine still does not work with AUTO set in P800.
FYI, P800=R2D 😊 , pcSuit=1.3.1, BT=usb dongle (widcomm software/driver)

:bday:

This news makes me very happy. Now I'm even happier that I bought myself a P800!! I'll be upgrading very soon....

Any changes in the alarm behavior for the Calendar? I'm really hoping a firmware upgrade will someday allow the calendar to have vibrating alarm and increasing ring/alarm volume.

You could go here:
Sony Ericsson Service Centre
1 Goldhill Plaza Podium Block #01-33 (off Newton Road)
(beside Novena Square)
Spore 308899
Tel: 6352 0200
Mon-Fri: 11.00am - 8.00 pm,
Sat: 11.00 am - 5.00pm.
Closed on Sunday & Public Holidays.

They're quite nice there, friendly people. Unfortunately, it will be about 5 hours to complete the upgrade, since they are getting alot of upgrade jobs. Yesterday, I was told that they got more than 20 jobs to finish. Well anyway as long as its free 😉 , and oh by the way they would give you a loaner phone while your P800 is being upgraded.

Thank a lot, Enterprise!

Anyway, which documents should be showed to SE?

Sorry for the question but I can not call to them directly.

Can anyone tell me if this new firmware has T9 Text Input integrated into it?

You have to show them the Warranty Certificate, that came together with the box. That's the one where it comes with the self laminating card. It should show there the purchase date, imei#, etc.
