I am seriously SHOCKED!!!

I finally went and bought the phone about two weeks ago, and thankfully (touch-wood) have had no problems yet, with the exception of one day when the battery died within an hour from full charge...

My version > R1D;R2C;R1F;R1F (in order they apper on fone)

anyway... I call SEUK Ericsson Service Centre (08705 237237) today 16th april, and they take my name etc etc. and then they inform me that the only service points that can update my firmware are all out of london.
one of these is in Tottenham... and they give me a telephone number to call... 08707746333... and i call and GUESS WHAT... THEY SAY THAT EVEN IF THE PHONE IS UNDER WARANTY, THEY CHARGE TO GET THE PHONE SOFTWARE UPGRADED, AND THEY ALSO REQUIRE HALF A DAY TO DO IT!!!

I was soo pissed off i slammed the phone down!!! :x

I used to own a Nokia 9210, and when i wanted to update the firmware on that, nokia themselves sent a DHL courrier over to pick up the phone, then sent it back with all the original data, within two days... and NO CHARGE!!!

Someone please tell me there is another way. or that this is some sick joke.... I am soo pissed ofF!!!!

I also phoned SE today and they gave me the same reply but when I pushed them further the lady said she didn't know whether Ornage shops would be able to do firmware upgrades but Carphonewarehouse ones would. (I think probably only the bigger service centre ones).

Therefore I think the service centres at other service provider shops (Orange, Vodaphone) will probably do it to (although they may not get the updates as soon as SE centres?)

Here's hoping anyway 😃

You've every right to be, if I were in your position I would contact Sony Ericsson customer support and ask the person you get to speak tos' manager to explain this situation since Sony Ericsson themselves have commited to free firmware upgrades.

I can tell you I'd be just as angry myself.

Please update us on this issu, if you get it resolved or not.

You shouldn't be paying anything.
I had my p800 reinstalled from scratch, it took less than hour and I paid nothing.
Also, I used different Nokias, and had them upgraded for free in warranty period... It costs less than 5 after the warranty expires.
I'm in Turkey.

Shops ( chains ) that have the hardware to flash phones have an obligation to update the phone that the sell in a one year period. SE UK do not suggest you get your phone flashed at any other location than thier own service centres.

Carephone warhouse on Oxford street should be able to flash your P800

@gaz.. I hope that wot u say is true, cos that would be ideal... but seriously guys... what kind of a company would have a representitive suggest that firmware updates within warranty would require time and money... plus its a premium product... i mean you dont have to go far to seen NOKIA's 9210 (premium product), and the way they DHL express the darn things...

ANYWAY... I JUS SAW A really good (if u are a pulp friction come cruel intentions kinda guy) film and so i am a bit cooled off... I saw rules of attraction.... seriously awsome!!!

I will call the manager and speak to them.... will post if the reply is different.... hope someone can verify the oxford street CPW thing.... cos that would be kool... (and i can just about understand if they were to place a small charge for it as they are third party!)

... still little pissed tho...
and i hate the saying ... "such is life"

No, you shouldn't accept paying any sort of fee to get your phones' firmware updated. Not unless everyone else have to.
If you can't get it updated at the local shop just override them and call SonyEricsson support and have them point you to a proper shop that will do it for free or.

At least you've managed to get a reply to the question you asked, even if it does seem rubbish.

I've sent three messages to SE UK Support via the forms on their web site asking how I would go about getting a firmware update for a P800 on the Isle of Man (no service centres here) and each time have received an entirely different response to a seemingly different question.

One of them actually gave me a list of extra features on a t68i over a t68???

It seems fairly clear that several of the people down there haven't got a clue.

I asked at my local Vodafone a day or so ago, and they said yes, they would be able to do the upgrade in-store, but would not have the kit for another week or so.
They do have all the hardware they need because they already flash T68is.

My local is a widgy small store in Liverpool St Station, so if they have it, everywhere will. :turn-l:

The shop in Tottenham IS an official SE service centre.

Certainly when I and a friend got our T68s upgraded to the T68i firmware, we were advised to go there, and they did it for free - and they didn't care whether it was within warranty or not even.

I wouldn't be surprised if you took it in and got a different story from the people that actually do it...

Guess wot...
CALLED THE PEOPLE AT TOTTENHAM SHOP AND THEY SAY THE SAME!! THEY SAY THAT THEY CHARGE FOR FIRMWARE UPDATING.. AND THEY HAVE THE R2D version now...

I'm seriously cheezed off!!

well, i called the se centre in here ,istanbul (turkey( and asked them about firmware upgrades because i was curious 'bout it...and they said that it will be available in servicepoints and no payment will be asked since it is under warranty...i guess pricing for upgrade is decide by local offices..
