I've have my firmware upgraded and the last digit of my Phone's IMEI has gone up by one.
This causes problems with applications that use the Phone's IMEI for activation.
Orange UK have confirmed that they only store the first 15 digits of the IMEI and therefore this doesn't cause a warranty/insurance/network problem...
Phil
False alarm. Your phone's IMEI is not changed. But this is a known "feature" of SonyEricsson phones that they show two extra digits when you ask them to show the IMEI.
Too bad that the software developers have not taken into account this "feature".
Yeah, simeonbubblegum appears to be correct:
Orange UK confirm that only 15 digits of the IMEI are used by them,
MSG SilverBall is NOT affected - my error there.
MotoRacer IS affected and presumably other software that blindly uses the "IMEI" as supplied by the system (*#06#) as opposed to the REAL IMEI (only the first 15 digits, not counting dashes, of the IMEI as supplied by *#06#).
I personally think that it was a bad idea for S.E. to provide this information as part of the IMEI (even if most providers don't use it, it's bound to cause confusion and problems).
Not so much "False Alarm" as "Heads Up".

I have the same I can;t use my register code with Motoracer anymore
I sent 'em the following email...
"It seems that the last two digits of a P800's IMEI are the firmware revision. Apparently Orange UK only store the first 15 digits of the IMEI.
My IMEI, after the upgrade to R2A firmware is one digit higher "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx04". Can you supply me with a new registration code for MotoRacer SE-P800?"
...in reply to the original registration email and got a new activation code...

jpsanders:
Can you answer a few questions relating to the firmware upgrade of the 'orange' P800.
Where did you get the upgrade done, I have contacted sonyericsson uk and got details of a local service centre, but forgot to mention it was on orange. (Seen a few posts saying orange not approved the upgrade yet)
Did you ask Orange if it was ok, for warranty etc...
Have you had any problems since upgrade?
My reason for asking is I have read a number of posts regarding orange/sonyericsson/p800 firmware upgrade hinting of a possible problem, which should not be the case unless orange have something different on their phones.

Orange Customer Care TWICE told me to go to Carphone Warehouse. I got mine done in Briggate, Leeds. Later, a Customer Care Supervisor confirmed that Carphone Warehouse were the recommended place for getting the upgrade (which they are well aware exists).
"Did you ask Orange if it was ok, for warranty etc."
Orange had hystrics when I told them about the changed IMEI. Insisted on speaking to a superviser who told me that only the first 15 digits are important. The upshot is that the warranty cover, insurance and general network availability (not being locked off the network or anything) are the same.
"Have you had any problems since upgrade?"
I've had a couple of crashes, but nothing out of the ordinary. Everything seems fine.

Thanks Phil
Its good to have it confirmed by you, especialy with all the different stories around will try to get mine done next week now.
I called SonyEriccson again before I say your reply to my post and they said they have be directing 'Orange' customers to normal service centres same as for any other P800 phone.
Jon
No problem, Glad to help.
