I have tried to set up a hostname at dyndns.org but it is not working.
The address I believe my phone is at is not responding to ICMP echo requests (ping) but that could be for a variety of reasons.
I suspect that I may have used the IP address of the transparent proxy that Orange uses, but I am not sure how I can confirm this.
I used a script (www.isthe.com/cgi-bin/whoami.cgi) to find my address (which appears to be 193.35.129.169), can anyone suggest a way I can make sure.
I would also be interested if anyone has been successful in using the Prosit mobile web server with a dynamic naming service.
I've heard of a program called IpView or IpCheck or something, but i'm not sure whether it was for UIQ or Series 60.
I am fairly sure now that I was using the correct ip address.
My broadband connection (provided by Telewest) also uses a transparent http proxy and I had inadvertantly had this scanned by a free online port scanning service before I realised that it was scanning the wrong machine.
Steve Gibson's port scanning service (grc.com) picks up the correct address for my broadband connection so I am assuming it has done the same for my p800.
Should the phone respond to ICMP echo requests? Does anyone else's do so?
It may be down to Orange but I shall dig about first before I contact them (it is somewhat painful speaking to them about such matters - when I asked them whether there was a transparent http proxy the operative asked me what I meant by transparent, I am sure I would have had to explain http and proxy next but I asked to be put through to s/o more technical to avoid this and she complied).
It could be orange i guess. If i rememebr correctly RealOne was not working in the UK networks because they've and still are blocking UDP packets.
I have now established that I wasn't using the correct address, but now I know it, I still can't ping it.
Has anyone (particularly on Orange in UK) been able to detect any signs of life (ie responding to network traffic) from their P800?
OK, I give in. 😮
Why do you want to ping your phone?
I suspect that either you want to 'push' stuff at it, or maybe
you want to work out how to set up a DoS attack at the phone itself?
😮nfire: <-- burning with curiosity
I want to be able to ping my phone to establish whether there is a proper ip connection. I want to run a portscanner on it (mainly out of curiosity, but I am an IT Security Consultant and I am interested in coming areas of interest to hackers), but I am also trying to run a web server (Prosit MobileWebServer) and it doesn't work. Ping is an important diagnostic tool and it's the first thing I think of if I am having network problems.
Now you mention it though, perhaps I can run a DoS attack on my friend's SPV that I have derided so much (mainly in revenge for when I only had a T68i and he took the piss because it had no web browser).
