Full Length Video on the 3650

Can anyone tell me if full length video clips (such as a 30min TV episode) can be played reasonably (i.e. without sync problems between audio and video) on a 3650.

I've been playing with encoding for the 7650 and encountered a tiny sync problem, but I'm not sure if that was the fault of the source video or the phone.

Thanks in advance

I've so far only tried a 21 min Futurama episode, and it seemed fine all the way through.

I would say the most important thing is how you encode it, make sure you keep the audio bitrate low otherwsie the poor old player cant cope.
I kept it fairly low at about 6.75 kbs and it was fine, although I will experiment with a smightly higher bitrate next time to get better quality.

But I reckon it must be ok on large files cos I've noticed people have posted 30-50Mb movie files on Kazaa already just for the 3650.

Hello, how do you encode, do you encode an mpeg and make it a 3gp ?

I've been using pvauthor. This is designed for .mp4 files so works great. Will encode directly from mpeg to .mp4 which will work fine on the phone.

You can also encode to .rm (Using something like Real Producer) and I'vve got this to work fine also.

Nokia's own PC suite that comes with the phone also encodes videos to .mp4(or .3gp as it calls them) - it does this if you try transferring a normal video file to the phone using it.

I prefer to use one of the first 2 options. This way you can play around with the best bitrate for your video/audio . I believe you dont want to let the total bitrate go above 80 kb/s for the phone to handle it. Sound is ok at 12kb/s and the rest video will do.
Also you can do a test with a short clip and work out from there how big a video file you'll end up with so you can fit it on your phone.

Of course, transfers using bluetooth/infrared of large files take a long time. I've just ordered a 128Mb card so i can watch movies & listen to mp3's and I've bought a usb mmc card reader/writer so I can stick the files on it much faster.

Hope this helps- take a look around , there's plenty of advice out there on the subject in these forums.

PS - Hmm, I just thought about starting a new thread for people to post the best encoding software they use- take a look for it too.

Yeah, I've got a full version of Jackass the movie and of the Bourne Identity, as well as 2 friends episodes and 2 futurama episodes. Syncs pretty well, but i really want to know if you can buy headphones for the 3650 so I can listen to my mp3's and videos without annoying everyone else on the bus. I also use pauthor, its given me no problems so far except with all my simpsons episodes. It just crashes my com[uter if I try.

Since you guys in this thread seem to know what you are doing in converting video files, here is my problem. I am sorry in advance if it is an ignorant question, but you got to start somewhere. I have been abel to convert an mpg video (originally 35mb) to a 3gp file using pvauthor (trial or basic version). The converted file plays fine on my 3650. I have tried to convert the same mpg file into a rm file using Helix Producer Plus (setting it with a Real Video Codec 8.0, framerate of 20 and other settings that ahve been recommended in this forum for Real Video). The file after encoding is 3.2mb. When I try to play it on my phone (using the in-built Real Player) I get a message saying the file is too large. I have tried this with automatic scaling both on and off. I have the file on my MMC which is a SanDisK 64mb MMC. There is approx. 54mb free memory on my MMC and about 2.9mb free flash memory. Can you help me sort this out please? My second question is: Can I convert avi files to rm files and/or 3gp files using Helix Producer Plus to play back on my 3650? I yes, can you give me some guidance please. Thanks for yuor help with both questions.

when it say the file is to big it means the pics size make sure it is 176 x 144 the max realplayer will allow.
