Guys,
In a few days time I'm on a plane to europe for a big backpacking holiday. Now, I'm a proud owner of a P800 and so I would love to use all its features while I'm over there. So I called my telco and asked about their international roaming and they told me that I couldn't get GPRS on roaming!
Now, I don't know about you guys, but a P800 without GPRS is sacrilege!
Soooo, does anybody know of any telco's that offer pre-paids with GPRS? I'll be spending my time going through Spain, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovenia if that helps.
Anybody?
Oops! .. I should point out: I want GPRS Internet (so that I can check email). GPRS WAP will not be sufficient.
If I'm travelling Europe, the last thing on my mind would be a phone...
Not all mobile ISPs support full GPRS and my guess is that you'll have to have a whole list of GPRS settings for every country's ISP you gonna travel through - and constantly change your settings for the specific country's ISP.
Maybe in 2020 you'll be able to do this?
If your really desperate to use net somewhere you can buy a prepaid sim card. Vodaphone pre paid supports net connecting and has settings for countries on thier homepage. There's even some auto configure sms thingie.. dunno if it works though.
The crap thing is that prepaid cards won't roam outside of the country you bought it it 😞
The Eastern European countries largely do not have GPRS available yet, so you will have to degrade to a GSM dial-up with those.
Some countries in Eastern Europe cannot even handle analogue over international dial-up over GSM, so using a central Europe provider often does not help.
Have a look at Gric - www.gric.com and see if they can help; you would have to carry the relevant country dial-ups as extra "internet accounts" and manually switch your preferred as you enter each country, but it works for me 😃
