Firmware upgrade delayed for Orange customers

I have just found out that the Carphone Warehouse shop on Briggate in Leeds will upgrade the firmware on your P800 as long as you're not with Orange.

Guess which network I'm on - what a pain in the bum.

When I phoned the central CW number, they denied that any CW shops would do it - internal communication does not appear to be their strong point (plus their web site says the Briggate shop has closed - it hasn't).

So no firmware upgrade or 128MB Duo for me - I'm starting to feel left out 😞 .

just got mine done at cpw i aintree.

they cant do it on orange as it is not compatible.

No they didn't say why. They did say that this is par for the course and that Orange should give them authorisation within four weeks.

He did imply that this was a matter of authorisation rather than the actual software. I think it is unlikely that different network providers will have different versions of the firmware.

The tel no for the Briggate CW is 0870 168 2863. They told me to call again in a fortnight. If I hear anything, I'll post.

Hi,

I had my P800 on Orange upgraded at the service centre in Pocklington (about 40 miles north of Leeds) last Saturday morning.

Am now on Phone:R2D, Org:R2A16

It took them about an hour and a half - they had no problems with it.

I had tried going down the CPW route to be fobbed off with the 'try ringing again next week' line. Seems like an internal politics struggle going on there.

I do recommend getting in touch with SonyEricsson and finding where your local service centre is. A lot less stressful!

jpsanders got his done on briggate on orange, another thread 😊

Normally CSRs ("Customer Service Rep"😉 get early versions of new phones to play with, but the P800 is deemed too expensive to give to a helpdesk jockey.

Because of this, they are jealous of P800 owners and just lie to us in relatiation. 😊

Just email George W to say you have seen a bloke in a beard and turban walking into the Orange call-centre, looks like the man you have seen on TV. Americans will bomb them for a bit, and the world will become a more truthful place. 😃

Or not. Who can tell.

😞

Yep, I agree, and sometimes the training is lacking as well..... I knew more about the p800 than the rep at the Vodafone shop I bought it from - go figure...

I did see the thread where jpsanders said he'd had his phone flashed. I was also in private correspondence with him about it and I'd forgotten that he was also with Orange.

I might just go in there and see what they say. I will check with Orange first, just to make sure they won't start whining about voiding the warranty if anything goes wrong with my phone.

Yeah, I'm on Orange, Orange are well aware what has been done and confirmed that it's fine, including warranty, insurance, etc.

Confirmed with Customer Care twice and a Customer Care Supervisor when I tried to confirm about my changed IMEI.

My phone has the usual Orange logo on it (flip removed) and I also commented about it being on Orange, not sold through Carphone Warehouse and they said that was fine.

I've had no problems since.
