I have been thinking about buying a 7650 when i comes out in our country. I just love it's features (just like 9210) since it has a built in dig camera. Wouldnt the 7650 series go directly against the 92 series since they both work w/ the same operating system?
Everybody saying that MMS is the future of SMS. With 7650, one can send MMS. While for 9210, can we send MMS too? I think we need another appl for that, right?
With 3rd party software developers making the same appl for 7650. what would be the advantage of our 9210 (besides or expandable memory card)?
Just curious, I guess since I cant wait for 7650 to ba available for us.
Many thanks.
Wouldnt 7650 kill 9210?
I think the 7650 is going to be great, it has everything people want in a device; great looks, functionality, fun and all that.
But I think it's a totally different device to the 9200 series, and they can't really be compared to each other.
The 9200 series is marketed to business people and geeks while the 7650 is marketed to young people who want to share an experience and a laugh.
Also, I doub't you're going to get <I>that</I> much in the way of serious apps like text editors, spreadsheets PDF readers for the 7650.
Someone on this forum has already said that an MMS client is being produced for the 9200, so that's a good thing, but I wouldn't worry for the 9200 when the 7650 comes out, they're like comparing apples and bananas.
I thought that too, at first - like...the 7650 is going to totally KILL the 9210, but they really are very different. First off is the physical differences (7650 = no keyboard, smaller screen, no MMC) then the os and software (less powerful built in apps! - no fax, no Word, no Sheet, no internet browser, etc, etc.) and targeted to different markets and potential buyers and different price points too.
The problem for me is that I want the new features of the 7650 (bluetooth and GRPS) - but in a communicator type machine! I think I'll be waiting for the new communicator next year or whatever...
i'd love to have
- bluetooth
- GRPS
- MMS
- java midlets (why cant 9210 users have the fun too)
- bulit in camera
...and MP3!
It's weird, but the communicator has a unique clam shell form factor - that will differentiate it from the new bunch of PPC WID's...just a thought; i wonder if Nokia are planning a tablet device?

That's great. Hope the MMS for the 9210 will be a freeware since people in Nokia owes us for they didn't include the MMS in the 9200 series in the 1st place.
I agree. But the question or the fact remains (which scares or makes me consider to try a 7650) is that what stops these 3rd party developers from making high tech applications like pdf, etc in the future.
If only the 9200 series has all the new features of 7650 too (like GPRS, MMS, & Bluetooth), then I wouldn't even bother to try out a 7650. By the way, lets not forget 7650's built in camera and its stylish design.
How many MB does the 7650 carry anyway? I'm sure i doesn't compare w/ our 9210s but just curious. Does it has an expandable slot like Palm and 9210? Hmmm....![]()
To my knowledge, it has most of the apps installed in ROM so idiots can't delete them, it has half the RAM of the 9210, I think have the data space of the 9210 too, but I'm not sure on that one. The screen is half the size and in portrait too (eurgh).
The 7650 is a "toy" phone, hence why it's in the 7 series, remember the 7110 which was another "toy" phone with it's big screen and wap, we are just a stage further down the line with it. The 9210 on the other hand is a serious PDA, and as such has a different market and usage to the 7650.
if you like the features of the 9210 and in fact you really need them --- then shifting to a 7650 will dramatically reduce your freedom to work on apps and docs.
9xxx series phones are for power users! ![]()
but still 7650 is a cool gadget...
I guess you are right. But 1 thig is that the 9210 has so many bugs in it. Darn it! It sometimes lets you down it the most important times. Like I'm encountering some problems w/ my FAX and SMS. And I have no clue how to solve it, Maybethe 7250 would be simpler w/ less bugs.
that's the problem with new phones...there are always bugs ![]()
I remember buying the Ericsson T28, when it first came out...let's just say i'm not buying an ericsson again. ![]()
Anyways, as for the 7650, i was also thinking of getting one when it comes out here in the Philippines. The features of the 9210 however easily beat out the 7650's gimicky camera
I reently bought a 9210 and will probably just buy the 7650 for my wife or something. After all, the camera's resolution isn't that great for pictures and you can't send the pics to anyone without a 7650...so i don't really find it much useful cept for voyeur pics LOL
@Mooky, whats tha problem about Java MIDlets, the 9210 support this.....look here http//www.aikon.ch/reviews/sw_review.php3?softwareid=61
and yes, the 7650 support MMS and many application from 9210 are too on 7650, BUT the 7650 have only 4MB space for ALL Application, ALL SMS/MMS, ALL Pictures......CASIO Wristcam have 1MB.....![]()
Thanks for the tip Colin ![]()
What I've read is that if you send a picture via MMS to someone who doesn't have an MMS capable phone, it can be sent to a 'mailbox' for the recipient to pick it up there.<font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by TANKERx on 2002-06-12 1002 ]</font>
As I go travelling I don't need to carry along with me (as my wife prefer to do, althoug she also has a communicator) a raft of things as
- dictionaries
- novel books
- maps + timetable books
- player for langugue learning + earphones
- photoulbums to show to friends
- dictaphone for business notes
ans so on and so on.
I just take my Nokia and thats all!
What I do really miss for an absolute freedom (as the say while advertising) it's a built-in camera, operating also from the phone panel.
For me a Communicator with a built-in camera would be perfect - I think in Japan they have such things since 1998 in retail!
Those Midlets are kewl
there's quite a few available - encryption, games, even Mercury IM! It's all pretty simple though - nothing to compete with commercial programs - but fun.
Yeah - and the great thing about the Communicator is that it's screen size is perfect for mobile video communication - half screen for person on other end of line and half screen for Communiicator user. But the camera would have to swivel in quite a clever way for the phone work - though I guess it could only work with the lid open?
I think MMS sent to someone without MMS enabled phone gets sent to a webpage and the link to that webpage is sent as SMS text to the recipient.
I read that MMS is just a file format - like for example a Microsoft Powerpoint file - I wonder if there is any PC based MMS file editor to play with? Anyone know?
to Apcaw yes i used to have a 9210 v3.18 and it gave me so many headaches on its bugs. i remembered i have to reset maybe at least once a day.
i shifted to 9210i -- ive used it for 6 to 7 days for 24 hours a day using normal operations (SMS, voice call, calendar, contacts, etc) -- without a reboot! i got to reboot it on the 6th or 7th day because memory left was around 300KB.
i guess 9210 v4.13 is already good enough if you arent planning a 9210i. ![]()
TO WHIPLASH
Wow. You shifted to 9210i already? That's great to hear that, so far, 9210i seems to run better than it's old brother.
I'm just upgraded my unit to 4.13 a couple days ago but still suffer from the regular problems..but better than 3.62v.
Hello, people!
I just got my 1st glimpse of a 7650 here in my country (Philippines). I saw a 16yr old girl using it in a saloon.
My gosh! I never thought it was that big. It was big. I always thought it be around the size of a 8310 or somehing. But not that big.
It wa thick ang huge. A handful big. After taking a look at it, I might not buy it at all since its not that handy afterall. But, of course, I might still consider....![]()
whiplash,
Since you have used both the 9210 and 9210i, I'd appreciate your feedback.
How does performance compare between the two. Is the 9210 much quicker at opening and switching apps etc ?
Can you handle large web pages with Opera without running out of memory ?
Zuber
whiplash dude
where'd you get the 9210i? how much?
does the 9210i solve the memory ploblem as appeared in 9210?
Hi guys!
Has everyone read the reviews of My-communicator regarding the 7650? If not, check out this link.
http//www.my-communicator.com/7650/review_eng.htm
With the reviews and scrrenshots that I saw on the 7650, I'm going back to my original stand that "7650 WILL KILL THE 9210."
With all these softwares coming out for the 7650 (like games, thrid party softwares), definitely the 9200 series will lose some sales.
I think that the 7650 is well nice and absolutely the sexiest phone on the market. However, the P800 will (IMHO) out-spec it on just about every count.
Any thoughts?
Definitely the 9210 has more advantages than the 7650, but the line is getting thinner and thinner. THe 7650 is fast catching up to the 9210. I just read today that 7650 can download sheet as well.
My question is that what will stop these 3rd party developers to develop new programs similar or even better programs for 7650? None at all.
>>i shifted to 9210i -- ive used it for 6 to 7 days for 24 hours a day using normal operations (SMS, voice call, calendar, contacts, etc) -- without a reboot! i got to reboot it on the 6th or 7th day because memory left was around 300KB.<<
Get Switcher and iDisc. Then you don't need to reboot at all. You can just close applications and free up memory like on a Psion.
Both machines have their raison d'etre. But the P800 vs 7650 is more interesting...
just recently checked out this thread -- now my replies:
to APCAW: if you are still bothered with 9210 v4.13 -- then i suggest upgrading to 9210i -- just a suggestion... strong suggestion.
to ZUBER: in terms of opening applications or shifting from one to the other -- it's way much better. it opens large contacts database faster. it think "better memory management" spells the difference... well i don't use opera browser -- but i've seen on one of the newsgroups saying that opera under 9210i, opera is faster...
SEXYBEAST: PhP38T (i think by now it's 35T)
MARTINHARNEVIE: >>Get Switcher and iDisc. Then you don't need to reboot at all. You can just close applications and free up memory like on a Psion. >> --- yes, i use switcher all the time, but somewhere along the way, the memory gets too low and it closes other apps whenever you use other apps - it annoys me sometimes because it's slow. don't you need a hard reset once in a while? (just curious) 😊
