hi guys! i'm planning to set up a wap site for wallpapers, can you guys help me out? 😊 i have a FEW questions 😊

1. can i use ordinary webservers? or does it have a be a WAP server specifically?

2. does wap site start with INDEX.WML just like website automatically look for index.html or index.htm?

3. can wap site contain JPEG or GIF files, or does it have to be WBMP files all the time?

thats all for now 😊 i still have a FEW questions, but i'll ask them next time 😊

TIA!

You can use an ordinary webserver, but you do need to add a couple of lines to its config file - I once used APache to serve wap pages, unfortunately I can't remember or find what exactly I had added to the config file.

I don't think it will automatically go to index.wml (since you are using an ordinary web server after all), though I'm quite sure it could be somehow configured to do that.

You can use JPEG and GIF files in a wap site, but keep in mind that not all wap phones can display them. Most of the older phones only understand WBMP, but many of the newer phones are OK with jpeg and gif, though you might need to watch out for the size. For example my 3650's wap browser cannot cope with jpegs bigger than about 14k, though it can easily display much larger images received by MMS, bluetooth or other means (looks like a browser limitation rather than the phone itself).
