Self Install Firmware

According to one of the tech guys at Expansys;

(Talking about the firmware update)

"We're going to have a look at this next week and hopefully either get the facility in Manchester to do SE upgrades or if the upgrade proves safe in testing - provide a user installable upgrade pack."

I so, so hope this turns out to be true.

Nice if true, but too many different rumors going around to look forward to anything at the moment... :-?

User-installable... omigod!

There would be dead P800s and at least 30 threads here along the lines of "Help!! Tried to install upgrade..."

Remember the old help-desk adage:

"When you talk to a user remember two things:
1. They are wrong, and
2. Their chair is slightly more intelligent than it's occupant
"

😃

Yes Jules, user installable, well,it should be in couple of months anyway if SE keeps their promise, you will be able to download the firmware and update your p800 by yourself.

OK, I'll prepare to be scared in about a year then...
😃

(actually would be handy to have, as we've said elsewhere)

There are self unlocking/reflashing kits sold in the states. I just talked to a guy that sais they sell it. But all SE warranties would be voided if you screw your phone up. It's a costly kit but it works on all SE phones. He told me that 70% of the users so far had have complaints because they killed their phones. If you're technically inclined it it not hard at all. I just placed an order for one since all I've been buying in the past few years are SE phones anyway.

I'm not talking about flash boxes but updating your firmware with file you downloded from an SE official site while your phone is safely siting in the cradle.
Once again,no additional equipment needed then the stuff that came with your p800.

dont forget you need to download the firmware from sonyericsson. They do not provide it to end users as their server is protected and only for dealers

:shocked!: And you are still going to order one and try it? Are you  insane :silly: or do you just like it when the odds are stacked against you?

All I've got to say is that after using TFTP to upgrade router firmware, I am looking forward to upgraded the P800. lol. :fadein:

Wow,TFTP,i remember those days quite vivid 😃

I would love to upgrade my own P800, but, I paid 299 for it and therefor me thinks me will just pop into a Vodafone shop and let them do it....

While I'm there, I can complain about something Vodafone and see if I can get a reaction from the reps... 😃
