Hi Folks
I've been searching through the existing posts for help with this and notice there seem to have been a few problems with synchronisation.
I apologise if some of the questions are simple or are covered by other posts - I'm an email administrator who has been landed with support of these and don't have one to play with!
I support some managers who use the 9210i in the following way:
Personal Secretary updates their appointments in outlook and manages all their meetings etc. Synch tasks are set so that the PC overwrites Communicator and synchronisation only happens from PC to Communicator. We had to do this so that duplicate entries would not happen in outlook and also so that the managers would not delete appointments by mistake.
I'm using Outlook 2000, Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2000 Professional.
From reading the posts I take it I may need to check the data suite version, however, these were only issued end of 2002.
I've encountered a few problems so far...
1st problem
Duplicate entries have occurred on the communicator where the PS has changed an appointment time - although outlook only shows 1 appointment the phone shows 2. I've checked with the PS and they are not deleting one appointment and recreating, just shifting the time by 30 mins for example. has anyone come across this before? One user said he had 6 appointments the same at one point. Any solutions / ideas?
I've had to delete all entries from the calendar and re-synch from PC to phone on a few occasions now, however, I can't risk bi-directional synch.
I note in a few posts that some of you have mentioned that you would not let outlook update the communicator? I take it this is from bad experiences? Does the 9210i have problems in general if bi-directional synchronisation is set?
2nd Problem
How do you completely remove device details from a PC?
One manager has been though a few communicators due to accidental damage etc - the list of available devices was cleaned in device manager up so that only the current one was showing. The original was then returned but needs to be re-added as a device, however, the data suite does not seem to allow the original one to be reconnected? I know there are some settings under c:\nokia\device_name etc so I tried moving the related files to a temporary folder but that did not work? Any ideas - are there registry settings or something? I must add that I've reinstalled the data suite too and still no joy.
3rd Problem
One user has all his tel numbers stored on the device rather than the sim card (these are separate from the contacts - I think) I had a quick look but did not see how to easliy xfer them onto the sim so he can move them to a new phone? same with text messages which are usually stored on the sim card.
Hope someone can help.
TIA
Pauline
