Not a Garmin 12 and not to the Nokia itself.
I have been successfull in connecting an eTrex to the Nokia emulator. I'm busy writing some software for it. I will connect the gps to the nokia soon. Just need to make up to required cable and to get the application in a stage where it displays something usefull on the screen.

I'll look forward to that Chris.
I'm trying to connect a GPS 40. Few teething problems though

I would be very interested in this software. As I want to conect a GPS engine to my Nokia 9210 to alert me to the approach of known hijack hot spots and speed traps listed online at http://www.speedtraps.co.za. Take a look at Location Protection Warning System (LPWS) written for ER5 devices, it may help.

I have in the mean while found out why one can not connect the 9210 to a GPS directly. The DLR-2 cable requires power to work. On a PC it gets the power from either the RTS/CTS or the DTR/DSR pins. On a GPS, that is normally not used. This means that the cable is not so easy to make.
You don't have to make a new cable, just use existing ones and build
converter between them.

Go to the end of page and there you can see a link "Kytkentkaavio".
Behind that link there is a diagram, how those cable should be
connected and to which pins you should connect battery
(Communicator cable doesn't work with out this)
I use Genimap Navigator as mapping software with gps:

If you have that GPS do you need software for it or not??
and if not where can you buy it???
Great! Can't wait to mod my cable. I have the GPS 40 also and started to write an OPL program but stopped because my old null modem cable did not work. Now I know why. My program was to monitor fuel and distance and a reminder to fill up as I use LPG. It will tell me when I am nearly empty and where to fill up.
Yep it works. Now on with the programming 😃

If you ment my palmtop gps, yes, you need a program for that, because gps only produces a nmea sentences for communicator (or for any serial device)
Routeplanner can't be bought without Nokia LAM-1 gps device (at least at yhe moment, mayby later). I bought that Genimap Navigator and I use it with 9210 and tomtom gps by connecting their serial cables with converter:

Sorry but instructions are only in finnish. But you can see the picture.
I tested it.
NK92 GPS works with all Communicator series, 9210, 9210i, 9210c, and 9290.

I just got the Nokia LAM-1 yesterday. Excellent! One problem though. When I go into the GPS menu under preferences, I cant tick the boxes. I guess they are actually working because the GPS works fine but no ticks apear. Anyone else have this problem?
I have the LAM-1 running fine. When I first go in to this menu, the only option that is black is "Use Global Positioning System". When I check this box (right arrow key), the others all go black and are available for checking the same way.
Where in this process is your system failing?
Well when I go into GPS menu preferences, I select "Use Global Positioning System" with the left/right arrow keys, ok as the rest apears and disapears, But nothing happens to "Keep GPS position on screen" when I select it. It just stays a blank box. Same with Map matching". Maybe I should reinstall the GPS driver.
Please keep us posted Nemopics.
Seems wierd, I dare say 😮
Reinstalling the GPS driver had no effect. Some other software must of messed things up again. TomTom overlays maps are great as are easily made up from text files containing fields of names and waypoints. As soon as I used it in the car I found a well used road near my house not on the map. although its been there since 1997 😞 . Anyway, if you get sent by your work to places you haven't been to before without notice then this is a great tool to have.
Does anybody know if any other GPS software will work with the Nokia LAM-1? By the way, Still running great, no crashes or memory probs with my 9210 version 3.62. 8) (whoops, forgot the manual, which is in html. Too big! 😞 )
