New Communicator...Coming Soon?

17 replies · 3,596 views · Started 28 April 2003

Hi there,
Just spoke to a SE representative here in Romania;he said that a new "rival"communicator from Nokia will be launched very soon...
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks a lot.

A rival would probably mean a UIQ based device, seeing as the P800 and 9210 are in a completely different league.

from my-symbian forums

That's not true. There are two new Communicator-like Symbian OS devices to be released within a period of one year. Or maybe even three. I can't tell anything more, but the first one will be available this year and the second one will be announced this year and available early 2004. Be sure that all will have BT, GPRS, camera, fast CPU, much more memory, MMS and things like that.

However, it is possible that they will no longer use the 9xxx scheme. They will either have some names or other series. And they will differ a bit - the range will be split into several different devices for different needs, like PDA, multimedia etc.

Sorry, no further information at this point.

Two new communicators ? Maybe 3 ?

Wow.

Yes, well. Then shall we call any new phone from Nokia "communicators" just because they have camera, gprs, gps, mms, or whatever... ?

When we see how much it costs to develop one 9210 style phone, we can wonder...

It seems that the new communicator will be announced soon according to my-symbian.com.
but come on guys,I'm sure that you MUST know details.
give us a hint.
and dont log in the forum,if ure so shy 😃

Well according to this register article there will be a Nokia WiFi device this year and that article links to this Nokia interview where it says it expects to use symbian in its Mid Range and High Range phones. Draw your own conclusions .

I just love wild speculation and thats all this is 😃
Too right! You can only be sure about a device when a company states they are making it.
Even then you cannot be sure that it will make it to market or when it will do so.

I though that was only Microsoft smartphones 😉

Yep! Seems to effect all devices in all categories 😊
