Does anyone know how the caller ID works on calls and text messages? I'm getting calls from a random person who has an identical number bar one digit to mine (it's the 4th digit)...annoying thing is that whenever I get a call from them it comes up with my name as the person calling, as I've got my details in the phone book to send business cards etc...I'd have thought that the caller ID would compare and match every digit, but it seems to be ignoring the different digit in our numbers and displaying the calls as being from myself!!!
I know I could probably have made it clearer, here's an example of the two numbers (made up):
Me: 07732894832
Them:07752894832
At first I thought it was someone using my account but when looking at text-message details their number is displayed as above....weird!
I've just been talking to girl on other end of problem 😉 and she's getting the same problem with a 3210...both on O2...any ideas?
I think this is an old Nokia problem, I had something like this on my 7110, and I'm not on O2...
I have a similar problem, whenever my brother calls me I get his number, not the name I have set for him in the contact list. I have seen his phone and he has the identifying ID service ON, so seems like the problem is in my phone, I repeat, this only applies to my brothers phone number.

I had a problem the same as yours - it was because I had the same phone number in two seperate contacts.
IE:
John Work
&
John Home
Both had his mobile number in them - so when he called me on his mobile, the phone did not know which name to show so it just showed the number.
I removed one of the duplicated entries and it was ok 😊
Hope that helps 😊

i read somewhere the phone is set to 'ignore' the first few digits because people sometimes have varied numbers depending on where they are..
ie. if i ring someone my number is 0409****** but then if i send an sms its +61409****** .. the phone is designed to match the last string and not the whole thing.

I know, that happened to me with the 8310, but I already knew that when I post my question, that's why I think it's weird!! 😞
I'll keep looking...
