It can be done, yes.
However, in some countries it is illegal, therefore I am not sure whether discussion of this topic is allowed on AAS.
for the att version you have to send it off. I just did it and the results are great form the griffen box
I unlocked my phone successfully. I did it by buying unlock codes from a certain website (which I won't post here for natural reasons).
It works perfectly fine to use with any SIM card now.. I haven't tried any software based solution, I used the standard lock codes you get from your operator when your time is up, although cheaper, and 1 year earlier 😃
