Vodafone to Orange MMS test..... please?

11 replies · 5,372 views · Started 30 April 2003

Whenever a friend of mine sends me a photo from their Sharp GX10 on Vodafone I receive the message with the correct size (about 5.8K) and the Class is Personal but the photo isn't there!!! cry
There is a Receive button which when I select it the first time it says 'bad file name' and then the next time it says 'The message could not be found'.
Has anyone else found this???
Can anyone else test this for me? Someone on Orange must have a mate with a GX10 on Vodafone?
Maybe the filenames attached on the GX10 are incompatible with the P800???

I know it was stated that Vodafone were the only network not able to do cross-network MMS, but I don't know if that's changed now...

I sent an mms from Vodafone P800 to Orange 7650 yesterday and visa versa with no problems whatsoever

Just to say that my "sister" sent me mms's from her sharp gx10 and i get the bad name nessage.
Apparently orange and o2 use the same protocols for mms and t-mobile and vodafone use the same protocols but they're fixing it "APPARENTLY".
Either that or the techie's just fobbed me off with some lame excuse.

This was a huge bone of contention for me as an ex vodafone (6 years) customer......not a chance in hell of sending a mms from vodafone to orange or vice versa....i'm led to believe that orange and o2 are compatible.....so choose your friends carefully 😉

Basically I was mis-sold a siemens s55 (for the missus) with mms on voda......but they did not support that phone. In the mean time I bought my p800 on orange....the fun and games started....and ended after a dozen strong emails to siemens/vodafone/mobileshop!!

So much for mms beginning a revolution in communicating when the networks can't get their act together....to think, I was going to have to deprive my missus from seeing my ugly mug 😮 she's now orange....and not because of fast tanning!!!

And I thought M$ were the only waste of my time!

I have contacted Orange and Vodafone and Orange have replied saying that they are aware of a problem with the Sharp GX10 sending photos to the P800 and that their engineers are working on it!
Lets wait and see......

This can sometimes be an advantage, such as when you are "working late at the office" and she demands that you send a picture to prove it.
Requires significant thinking ahead, which most men don't do too well 😃

glad i am not the only one..
my 'friend' with a gx10 on voda was very unhappy to not get my 'special' MMS - she gets nothing at all, my orange P800 gets the message but i get a bad name error upon attempting to download the piccy...
the number of SMS updates from orange having no effect whatsoever i am sure is inversely proportional the the concern expressed by the orange call centre gal.. even if they do have sexy northern accents

I also got the missus a S55 on O2, and when i MMS her she gets a TXT to tell her to log on the web site to get the pic

gets me out of the 'late night at the office' pickle suggested by Jules

but here's a tip guys... do a few late nights and take some sample shots... just send her one of those 😉

... just remember to choose the picture that matches the shirt you are wearing today. Women tend to notice that sort of thing 😮ops:

Hi there up till about three months ago I myself was using a sharp gx10 unfortunatley. One of the first things i found was that there were two ways of sending an MMS message, not sure if youu guys have already tried this but it worked ok for me in the end when trying to send messages to e-mails and a 7650. The Sharp will always try to send the message as a slideshow format from what I can gather this works with just the Sharps could be wrong but whenever I sent one in this format to everybody they had problems reading the damn thing, easily sorted though if your freinds when writing a message go into options and turn slideshow to off they will then be presented with a normal looking mms and hopefully that should work. As I say youve probably already tried this but just in case I thought it was worth a mention.
