Hello,
Hopefully this post doesn't get people too excited - there *isn't* an MP3 player for the 9210 yet.
The question I want to ask is this if someone were to develop an MP3 player, what are the chances of getting stereo output from the 9210?
Does anybody have an annotated schematic for the 9210 connector?
I think one of the killer apps for this phone would be an MP3 player, with stereo headphones that patch into the phone interface so that it works rather like the SL45
* Listening to MP3 with headphones
* Ringtone cuts in telling you there's a call
* Answer key (button, whatever) switches to call
* When call is disconnected the MP3 player starts again
I think that Nokia won't do it as it would be cannibalising the sales of their existing MP3 products. Also Nokia would have a problem retro-fitting copyright protection (of which they're a fan) into the OS and since ER6 on the 9210 is an open platform you can always code *around* OS limitations (like TaskMan does)
Any thoughts?
Mick.

Hi,
Only external audio lines are "XEAR" and reference for that is "GND" and "XMIC" reference with "SGND"
"XEAR" is in same line as "HF SPEAKER"
So stereo output is impossible...
But MP3 with mono output would be fine to me
Oh JeP..

Same here......The sooner the better..
But this topic made me wonder....Did any of you check out the new 5510..(Gameboy kinda MP3 playing thing)
Well...After Nokia made that, its seems that the development on the 9210 has been going on in the 1990s
Just look at that USB connection...That should have been no prob hooking that one to the end of the 9210...NO NO..Ill bet that the 9210 is just an conversion of the 9110 with some snazzy buttons and a flashy display...
What i meen is that looking at the 5510 and thinking that they may have been on the drawing board toghether..Why the hell did nokia not make that USB port and MP3 player in their topline product range...
Well...I love the 9210...even higher than my old N9110 and N9000...But the product seemes rushed...It would have been easy to include the above mentioned things..But I bet the got it in store for the "real" 3G communicator
Your devoted pal....
Well... for 5510 i have to say that is not phone for me... basic games with larger (64Mb) memory, supports protected mp3,same display, internal radio, HW conversion from 33xx..
I wonder if you can get Nokia Music Player connected to 9210 via standard HF adapter... there would be AAC, USB, MMC's, stereo output, HF, Radio.. opinions?
Regards
A mono MP3 player would be fine and from all reports there should be one soon, even Realplayers next version is said to support MP3.
The thing I want to know is can we get quality sound with maybe some kind of simulated stereo.
I have a Nokia hands free kit with the one ear piece and the sound qaulity is very bad even with the best qaulity WAV or RAM I can find.
oh JeP....Again we agree...I just mentioned the 5510 to point out its USB port ..The phone its self is, an Nokia self describes it."Ment for the Teenage crowd"
But iv bee lurking at that musicplayer too, but as everthing is here in Denmark, its still unavalibel.
I hope at least that Nokia remembered their brains on this one and made it to fit ALL nokia phones..(maybe im dreaming)
Hello,
The simulated stereo is the thing that interests me... The options for a stereo MP3 player are
1.
<b> Work out some kludge with the current
connectors that allows two-channel
sound output.</b>
2.
<b> Devise a system that somehow
encodes the two stereo channels into
one mono one that can then be
decoded to stereo with an inline widget
on the headphone cable (think
interleaving left and right channels at
different frequencies, outputting mono,
then splitting the interleaving with
some simple electronics such as a
pitch/phase shifter)</b>
It's a real shame it wasn't built into the device in the first place.

Hi everyone,
on sourceforge.net there's a JAVA MP3 player for JDK.
Maybe someone is gonna port it to the 9210.....
You'll never know
Surely if we can get a MPEG Layer 3 codec for the Recorder, we will be able to play MPEG Layer 3 encoded wav files, which essentially are mp3's?
Guys,
check nokia forum for the updated Real Player... it still can't play MP3's but they fixed it so that it works with more verions of RM's....
regarding the MP3's .... here is what I do... it might sound stupid .... but hay it does the trick to me
I converted all of my MP3's to WAV's using Nokia Multimedia converter... it makes the files 1 MB and some less.... and use the recorder to play them....
untill they make the mp3 player.... I will keep doing the same thing
This is actually the best way for now. I myself have converted MP3 > WAV > 9210 WAV FORMAT. A 4.58MB MP3 was 1.84MB on my communicator in the end.
Can someone explane in detail how to do this?
