Is it possible?

Hello,

I dont have IR or BT on my computer, so I guess it would work if I bought a MMC reader/writer?

but why? I have other devices such as digital camera with SD card so a combo MMC and SD for 20 $ is great. In comparrisson with a bt adapter for 60 $

I think you just forgot to tell us WHAT you want to do 😉

anyway, a MMC reader works very well... but you need to have some way to browse inside the MMC after you put the files inside there

so, you'd have to manage and find a way to install a filemanager, i.e. sending it via email

then you can put the MMC in the reader and copy whatever you want inside it

if i have a writer and reader i can download stuff from the internet and place it on the harddrive. copy them for instance SIS files to the MMC card and put it into the 3650. then i would install them like regular on the phone. either place it on the phone or the mmc card.

right, it will work?

yes, it will work

but you need to have a filemanager installed, as I wrote before

then, you can browse to the folder where you copied the .SIS or whatever file, and launch it like from Windows Explorer on your PC 😉

i'll try it tomorrow when i have bought it... it really sux Nokia does not have a cable...

Well it looks like it does! Remove the battery and MMC and Sim-Card (i think, my phone is being repaired now) but just remove everything and you'll find this hole, with a number of pins arranged, same as in my old 3330 that was where i put the cable, and the battery was over the cable connected to a phone, a way that it's on an angle. I really would want to see a cable for this phone! As IR is really slow considering 15 MB video clips and stuff 😞 (correct me if i'm wrong, but that was my observation 😃)

I want to get a infrared port coz the bluetooth usb here is very expensieve.....but like i read on this forum complains by many people that their pc suit dosent connect to the phone when their trying to connect with IR
why is that....
could someone give me the name of a infrared which works well with the 3650

yes there is such a hole under the SIM card - but there are no pins just gold 'contacts' on the PCB, I assumed that was where the NSC plugged their cable for firmware updates?

Will.

.

The MMC reader/writer is good for transferring large data like mp3's or videos. I recommend you buy one if you're into these stuff. But if you're only transferring small sized data, then buy a bluetooth. But they're right. You need to browse for your files in the MMC using file explorers. The program has to be transferred to your phone by IR or BT or the like. Better think about it really hard 😊

Hey faquick,

I have a card reader for mulitple cards as I have a number of cameras. I tried putting .sis files on the MMC card but as you point out, the phone can't find them to install.

Is there a particular filemanager you recomend ? - I am thinking of SeleQ which seems to be optimised for the 3650. Can it do the business with moving files (presumably to c:\nokia\installs?

Hi Terry,

any filemanager will do it. You'd just choose depending on what features you need... and what you like more. Another important thing is that there is a VERY GOOD file manager that is freeware and continuously been improved: fExplorer, by Domi (you can find a lot of posts in this forum about this excellent file manager)

if you want to buy one, I definitely recommend SeleQ, because (in my opinion) it is the best out there.

concerning where to put .sis files, well, you can run them from any location. So you can create a folder in the MMC with your PC reader, then put all the .sis files you need inside there, then move the card to the phone, and browse with the filemanager to the folder where you put all the files, and just click on them and select "run" (this is slightly different in the various filemanagers, but it's straight and simple 😊)

hope this helps, feel free to ask again if I have been not clear 😉

The Bluetooth adapter has the (enormous - in my opinion) advantages of letting you use the PC suite. You can install .sis files directly from your computer (thus not needing you to ocupy twice the space of the file in order to install the software), and it converts avi, wav, mp3, mpeg, quicktime and other file formats to those used by the phone...
You'll also be able to access the internet through your computer's connection... just look for the threads...

I love my BT adaptor + PC Suite. there's no irDA or any other adapter that substitutes them...
