Correct me if im wrong, but isnt that the same as reading/writing using the cradle? They are both USB so there is no speed difference. I got myself this

I guess the benefit of your one is:
- compact in size
- can take to anyones computer (most people should have usb ports)
- cheaper

The advantage of my one is:
- very fast transfer speed

disadvantage:
- more expensive
- requires a firewire card/port
- a little bigger to carry

I guess it depends on each persons situation.

cheers

in demons initial post he states-

"Transfers are nice and fast (4MB MP3 takes about 10 secs, compared to the 5 mins with the SyncStation) "

The standard cradle for the P800 isn't USB. It's a USB to Serial interface, and runs at Serial speeds (so, at a guess, 115200bps max), that's why it's so much slower than a USB reader..

Thanks for the pointer, I've just ordered one.

5 is absurdly cheap and it addresses on the the main weaknesses of the P800, namely the pathetic speeds you get with the cradle.

I got myself a six-in-one memory card reader/writer (Iwill CR611) and it doesn't seem to be able to write from an Apple Mac powerbook (although the instructions leaflet says it will). Files seem to register "Error". Now, why would it go wrong?

Harumph, I've just got an email from ebuyer saying that they are either out of stock or discontinued. I have to dig around to find out which.

I thought that was too good to be true.

I got the firewire reader for $80 Australian dollars. That is equivalent to approx 31 (i think that symbol is pounds, correct me if im wrong).
So its not that expensive afterall.

Is there any store that ships this reader outside of UK ?

I have been looking for a sheap USB reader.
