HI!

Where can I get TELNET (VT 100) for my P800 ??!??

-Uros

YOU CAN'T!!! :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words:

This is the second time you post on this topic and there is just one answer, THERE IS NO TELNET SOFTWARE FOR P800 AS OF YET, USE SSH.

You're really just spamming this forum now, please stop it.

there's a telnet midlet - don't know if it works however ...

Hmm, I tried this midlet and it installed OK and runs.

However, I am having trouble getting it to work.

When I connect it says:

connecting to [insert site name/address here]...

and then the screen goes blank. Pressing return does not produce a login prompt and it just sits there after this.

As far as I can tell, there doesn't appear to be anything fundamentally wrong - has anyone else got this to work?

In contrast to the ssh client (and I am grateful to the developer for his efforts) there is functionality to enter control characters (which is the sticking point with the ssh client) so this does look promising. I am sure that I am not the only one who would like to get this working.

from the website it says that it should run on any midp compatible device with socket support.

have you tried starting a connection beforehand in case it doesn't know what the default connection is ? i would also try it running with a wap connection as well ...

I dont know about telnet client, what about a shell,i have seen screenshots of an app caled PuTTY,and in the screenshot the user has connected to his Linux box,i dont know if its telnet.

I haven't tried establishing an active connection first so I shall do so (as soon as I've put my son to bed).

Putty is an ssh client ( ie it's an encrypted version of telnet). This is the ssh client is referred to above. This does work, but you can't enter control characters (such as ESC and CTRL) which rather limits its usefulness. It's a great shame as I'd love to have ssh working.

I think I shall email the putty porter (who asked for bright ideas about the keyboard issue) and point him in the direction of mutelnet.

So PuTTY is an SSH client, thank you for clearing that up for me.I cant believe that people are still using telnet.

I certainly wouldn't use telnet for anything in the least sensitive, but it has traditionally been used for things like the archie file search service where security didn't matter as much (as well as logging on remotely).

I use Putty/ssh between my computers at home despite being behind a firewall (I'm paranoid).

I did try establishing a connection first and then immediately trying muTelnet on a telnet server I had tested, but it didn't work.

Telnet can be useful for network diagnosis (you can telnet to mail servers and web servers as well as telnet servers) and, being from a Unix background, I just think a proper computer has telnet (and ping for that matter).

Doesn't it also have to at least fill a room the size of a small house, and only support serial connected VT100 terminals? 😉 😃

Only kidding 😊 A telnet client (that actually worked) would be kinda handy on the P800.
