128mb duo v. "My P800" on win2k

i got a 128mb duo from brando. i put it in the p800, power up the p800, format the duo, and dock it with my pc. i double-click on the "My P800" icon, double-click on the "My P800" folder in there, and get a new explorer window showing both "Memory Stick" and "Phone Memory" under "My P800". i try to expand "Memory Stick" and the plus-mark next to "Memory Stick" goes away and then the entire line for "Memory Stick" goes away.

no matter what i try to do with the explorer window (and i have one hell of an imagination), i can not navigate into "Memory Stick". the p800 doesn't have any problem seeing the memory stick, e.g., i can copy files from C: to D: without problem.

when i first got the p800, i didn't have any problems with the 8mb duo.

so, what am i doing wrong?

thanks,

/mtr

I don't know, maybe a bug. Do you have the latest PC Suite (1.4.2) installed?

If this still won't solve your problem, you could always buy a Memory Stick (or X-in-1) reader.

BTW, did you have an 8MB mem-stick Duo, or is that just a typo??

I'm not experiencing the exact same problem... I've got the 128MB memory stick and I can't see it in the My P800 software... I load the stick and it reverts back to internal memory... Weak!

Maybe there needs to be an update for the phone to recognize such a new and large format card that wasn't out before the phone was developed and manufactured. Anyone check the Sony Ericsson website to see if it is known problem with an update?

Unlock your memory stick and your problem will be gone.

How to unlock it? Take a pencil or pen and move the tiny slider on the memory stick duo in the opposite direction. That's it!

You dont have to format ANY memory sticks, Sony does it for you. I've just received my memory stick 128MB duo from www.p800er.com this morning, put it in my phone straight away and it showed up in storage manager as a 128MB stick!! Happy days are here!

*This will be my sixth memory stick I own and have not formatted one of them.... 😃

thanks! upgrading to 1.4.2 fixed it. (i'm hesitant to upgrade on the pc side owing to "stability" issues with the software.)

and, you're right: s/8/16/ in my original message!

I just picked up a 128MB stick. After installing lots of trial programs to poke around with, I wanted to transfer my photos from my old 16 to my 128.

I had the same problem happen! Expanding the Memory Stick in the Explorer window caused it to disappear. I am running the latest 4.2, but that still didn't seem to fix it.

I opened the picture viewer, edited my folders and made a new folder on my external memory. That seemed to jog everything back in order, so now I can see my "Media" folders in the Explorer.

Just passing the info along...

I have had the mysterious missing Duo on one occasion, the only way that I have found to cure it is to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds then switch phone back on.
I dont beleive it to be PC software version related as I have version 1.5.1_EN installed on my machine.
The only other problem that I have come across is the program listings occasionally dissapear and this is resolved by removing the dou and re inserting it (whilst phone is on), I know that someone is bound to say that this will damaged phone / duo or corrupt data, but unlike my PC, I have my phone backedup everyday (scheduled task every evening whilst having dinner).

I don't think of these 2 glitches as anything more than a minor irritation, I wish my PC was a reliable as my P800 😊

Legin.

And thx for doing so 'cause your advice just solved my problems!
I bet this will be relevant to quite a few of you outthere.

(And even running the pc suite 1.5.1 on win xp the problem is still apparent!).
