Vodaphone internet GPRS settings..

10 replies · 6,136 views · Started 06 May 2003

I know, probably been asked before, but I've failed to find it in a search, so..

Does anyone have the correct Internet GPRS settings for UK Vodaphone? The ones off justyak.com don't appear to work on the phone I'm trying to set up (the bosses P800.. Ah, I get all the best jobs.. 😊).

He's already got GPRS enabled BTW, as the WAP profile works OK..

Thanks,
Aaron

Don't know if these work, I've never had the need to use them, but I found them sonewhere for GPRS accounts on 7650s. Some of the fields don't apply to P800s, but it should get you heading the right direction.

Connection Name: GPRS Web (or anything you want)
Data Bearer: GPRS
Access Point Name: internet
User name: web
Prompt for Password: No
Password: web
Authentication: Normal
Gateway IP Address: 0.0.0.0

If/When you get it working could you post the right settings. They'd be useful to have for future

Mine is set up as connection type GPRS,
then in the Advanced section:

Server:
- User name & password Required: ON
- User Name: web
- Password: web
- Address: internet

- Get IP Address automatically: ON
- Get DNS Address automatically: ON

Proxy
- Use Proxy Server: OFF

Other
- Enable PPP Extensions: ON
- Authentication: Normal

QoS
- Header compression: OFF
- All fields subscribed.

Hmm.. Must be something blocked at Vodaphone's end on the bosses contract I guess, as I just checked your settings vs mine (Jules) and they're identical.. Opera just times out trying to resolve the host name (which was www.allaboutsymbian.com, of course.. 😉)

Ah..

Oh dear.. 😮ops: 😮ops: 😮ops:

Helps if I spell the URL right, doesn't it! Ahem. Oops.

Your settings worked perfectly, Jules..

Cheers Jules & Chris 😊 (There's now one happy boss sat behind me)

Make sure you get time-share use of the phone as payment for all your troubles!

Hehe 😊 Nah - he's copying me by getting a P800.. and mine is the one with all the nice apps installed 😊 (he's not getting /those/ for free!)..

I wouldn't mind borrowing his SIM card and using his phone bill, though 😃

(I did check his phone to see if he had a newer firmware, with the intent of swopping them if he did, mind :black: )

small tip. Go to the Sony Ericsson site and their is a configurator there which is actually how SinglePoint get the settings onto your phone. Set your country, then your operator (Vodafone UK is listed) enter your mobile number and you will get an autosetup text message. WAP, GPRS and Email can all be setup this way.

Lol, how true..

Plus, last time I looked - I didn't think they had the Internet settings for the UK providers, just GPRS wap.. Of course, I might simply have missed it.

haloooooooo

1. from the SE site (and also from vizzavi) you can only get the wap settings
2. the full internet settings are as posted in this thread correctly - use "internet" as your apn and web/web as user/pass - thats all you need.
3. make sure your boss is on a bundled mb tariff - or he won't be able to use full internet, he will only be able to access wap.

any other problems pm me - i know a fair bit about the p8 on voda uk gprs 😊

Thanks Andy 😊 The boss is now a happy bunny as he can surf the web, and pick up his work emails..

Of course, he had to move the 4000 emails out of his inbox before he checked his emails via the phone.. Or he'd have had a very big bill 😃
