IMHO, I find it more convenient to use the P800 without the FLIP Keypad. Using the virtual keypad is as easy as using with the flip. And the nice thing is that you can listen to your favorite mp3 music without worrying about closing the flip will disconnect your listening mood. I just don't know if in the new f/w, you can listen to your mp3 while the flip pad is closed? Anyway, that's just my own preference. What about yours?
To FLIP or not to FLIP.
I prefer the flip closed variant, since:
- the virtual flip is *not* as easy to use as the real one: if I use my fingers, I have to make sure I use my finger nails to hit the buttons, else the phone doesn't properly recognize the button press. Since I'm an office type, my fingers are more of the narrow kind. I can't imagine how ppl with broader fingers could use the virtual flip in a confortable way.
- it protects the screen a lot better (I often take the P800 in my pants' pockets). Plus with flip open, my screen always gets slightly greasy when I make a call.
- closing the flip leads to a more simplified user interface (I only have the often used apps available).
- I'm not the scared type, but the phone looks more like an ordinary phone with flip closed which I found convenient in public spaces with a large crowd (ppl are staring less at my phone and more at me 😊 ).
It's a pity one cannot listen to MP3s in pre-R2D versions of the firmware; I consider this a usability flaw and am really glad to hear this has been fixed in the latest FW releases.
But one can listen to MP3s.. All you have to do is click on that Music note ICON on the lower left corner of the screen(just above the signal indicator), play the song and close the flip 😊

This must be about the 3rd poll regarding flip usuage. Consider dialing the phone while driving or if your vision is somewhat obscured.. It's imposible to dial with the virtual flip.. But with flip you can finger around the pad without looking.
I have had my firmware upgraded and I can play MP3s with the flip closed without any problem. All I do is start playing and close the flip - that's all there is to it.
I prefer to keep the flip on, partly because I do find it easier to hit the correct button when I can feel them but also because it protects the screen.

Yeah, but every time you need to adjust the volume, you must open the flip, the new R2D firmware allows true flip closed MP3 playing.
I use my fone with the flip on it. Its alot safer this way, and more convinient too. No problem whatsoever listening to mp3 even when i close it 😊
I vote flip on :P
There is a few simlar thread to this is you want other peoples opinions.
I still prefer flip on! It helps protect that sensitive screen. 😃
