NOKIA 3650 doesnt support 512 mb card. The maximum support is 256mb.
Where is that stated?

The MMC interface specs allow up to 4GB, as far as I'm aware (however, I wouldn't ever expect to actually see such things made until flash memory technology improves significantly from current state of things).

For that matter, which manufacturer has a 512MB MMC card available (I don't see many 256MB cards for sale either)?

I just ordered one for around 60 off eBay. When it arrives I will try it and post my results here 😃
Also if the company is any good I may post their contact info so we can all get 'em !
512MB cards are only coming next christmas.
this is not true. this christmas (2003 - 2004) will be on market 1GB MMC !!!

Just to confirm , My 256 MB MMC arrived this morning. 😃 Popped it in and all is well. Takes a bit of time to format but its working A-OK .
My 3650 is a V 2.50 model built on 13-02-2003. I got the card off a company called Sunbrico heres an ebay seller link.

http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=sunbrico&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=25

They are real helpful and te product is much cheaper than in the high street stores.

Cheers,

That is a surprise, since in a german cell phone forum some people who said to have tried it claim that 256 mb mmc will work only with firmware > 3.xx .

Anyone to confirm?

Dieter

Looks like your right... Just tried to move some images and got loads of errors. It shows up OK in the Memory manager and I can back my phonebook up to it but images are a no no
To use my 256meg card I do indeed need to upgrade my firmware. Dieter was right. Phone on its way to a service point now (Freepost too which is nice of nokia)
Sorry for the previous post... Will post when I get it back...

DONT WORRY,BE HAPPY,dont worry be happy 😊 na...nannaaaaanna,dont worry,BEEEE HAAAPPPY.SO WE ARE right yours 3650 will boot,and start like a rocket. :P

can take maybe 1 or 2 pictures at a time and save to the card but then I get all kinds of errors. Basically anything that I try to do with the card after a few opperations the phone can not read it any longer and I have to take the card out and re-insert it again.

here is something weird
there r 512 sd but they arent and 256 mmc
almost same size
very weird.....

In the US it's not that simple. I called NokiaUSA and told them that I wanted to upgrade my firmware to 3.13 so that I can use the 256MB card. I was told that:

a) they only pgrade firmware if there is something wrong with the phone so if I sent it in they would most likely see that there's nothing wrong with it and send it backk without flashing

b) they told me that the phone only supports upto 128MB cards

c) they told me that the phone does not support 3rd party MMC cards (that is BS because I know others use 128MB cards that are not made by Nokia but this is what I was told)

Are you a club nokia member? If you are not, become one,its free, then they'll have to do the upgrade or just say that your phone crashes a lot.

You should read some other cases of Nokia employees talking silly, there are a lot 😊

I am a club Nokia member, I already sent the phone out today. The turn around time is usually a little over a week so now I'll just wait.

Hi,

I just spoke to the manager at Nokia USA Tech Support. There is no information on any new firmware for Nokia 3650 - no release date, no intention to release one. The current one is 2.54. They are aware of a new firmware scheduled to be released in Europe. However, Nokia USA will not support it and will not release it in U.S.

As far as 128MB MMC cards. Nokia USA said they will not support them. I personally have RiDATA & Crucial 128MB MMC cards. They both work fine with my 3650 phone (one must format any MMC card before initial use). I tried 256MB MMC card by PDC - IT DID NOT WORK! The phone did not recognize it. I knew the card was good because I used it in another device.

I use Video Recorder instead of RealOne to play my video files. It allows me to see a bigger screen than RealOne. PacketVideo suppose to utilize the entire screen during video playback. I don't have it since they don't offer a trial version.

I also did the following test. I cut the 2-hour movie into 8 (eight) 15-minutes files and transmitted them via bluetooth to my Nokia 3650 128MB MMC card. During the transmission (about 40 minutes) all 8 files were converted into approximately 10MB segments occupying about 80MB. The quality of the movie was surprisingly good. I do not recommend transmission of entire movie to your phone since there is no way to pause your movie and continue later on once you close the Video Recorder program.

I think this may help owners of Nokia 3650, especially in the U.S.

See, and I was told something totally different by Nokia USA. I was told that they do in fact have a newer firmware then 2.54 but like I said before they will not flash a phone unless there is a problem with it. Also I was told that Nokia only supports upto 128MB MMC's and that they do not support non Nokia MMC's. Now that last statement either means that Nokia plans to make 128MB MMC's or that they are contradicting themselves by saying that they do not support non-Nokia MMC while not making 128MB MMC's.

To greendx,

I don't know what to tell you about the new firmware. I called nokia toll free number, pushed a few numbers to get to customer service, asked to for tech support, got transferred there and asked for a manager.

The man I spoke with told me, that there would be NO new firmware in the USA anytime soon. He also told me they would not upgrade to the current 2.54 firmware unless there was a problem with the phone (but you could always use an excuse posted by GhostDog). He also said they don't support any NON-Nokia MMC cards (I personally have two 128MB MMC cards, Crucial & RiData, and I can confirm that they both work).

Good luck!
