why ONLY 12 bit! ?
The P800 would have really deserved a 65k color display // images, movies, everything would have been perfect... :cry:
Now don't tell me because of power consumption...
A friend had some Panasonic phone (Japanese version) with a nice 65k TFT screen and the quality was amazing, made my p800 screen look like back in the old ages...
This is the one annoying thing about it (I won't mention the duo issue for now...)

BTW: I do think that the P800 is the best all-around device I've ever had by far...
Jap phone seems to be the only ones going for the high def visual display. But almost all the phones look like a kid toy though..
In Japan they even have 262144 colors! Sharp in Japan even has a screen that gives you the feeling that it is a 3d screen (without having to wear that glasses). My advise: Don't compare European devices with Japanese. The Japanese had color-screens already while we were just walking around with a nokia 5110 😊
Well, them kid toys seem to have the best functions, features, design, quality, selection, contents, yeah watching a concert of your mobile phone was known ages ago.. how many years ago, connectivity, although we're catching up slowly, memory! and prices! Gee, make me a kid. :-?

i have been reading alot about japanes mobiles in the news
but isnt SONY ya japanes company ? why then did it make the P800 just a 12 bit ??
i dont know why do i have this feeling but i think a company with the name of SONY ERICSSON .. should develope the best mobile in both markets the japanees market and the European market

As far as I might know, the reason is in the HW bus between MCU and UI module - 16 bits or more is propably possible but not without some penalty in flickering, fps rate, power consumption etc. And why not having just wider HW bus then you might ask - well these are the limiting factors if you want to have a compact size as well...

Hmm, everybody allways says that japanese gadgeds are allways so nice and better than others, so it would be very nice to see some links to those devices. And another thing is if those devices are sold to allready or are those just vapoerware stuff.

Wow, very constructive... i must try that. ... nah, i didn't find any. No really, as long as i can remember i have heard that japanise gadgets are so much better, but are those things really that? There are some very cool gadgets sure, but so are in other places too. Anyway when i boughted my p800 at christmes there were couple 65k color phones in japan shops. When nokia released 7650 phone to shops most of japan phones were 8bit color phones.

Well, its a fact that people in jap will pay more for a phone so they naturally will give their best there. Although some of their design isn't very suitable for us.. But thats only design related, like the length and such. The rest of the world gives me this kind of feeling - "Ewwww.. Its so colourful and so multimedia like! I hate that, I want to stick to my stone aged black and white mobile just like my personality!" Of cuz its not true but I can't help it. :robot:
PS: Chinese and Korean phones ain't bad too, the chinese models have great functions too and whole lot cheaper.. way cheaper but getting to them is another thing.
