Citymaps routeplanner problems

17 replies · 5,028 views · Started 10 May 2003

i have just bought the GPS module for the nokia 9210.

i have installed all the software that is needed ( map for london, GPS positioning s/w, citymaps s/w etc...)

when i go to the extras menu to open citymaps i get this error :-

Application TomTom citymaps
Reason code KERN-EXEC
Reason number 3.

i have no idea what any of this means and dont know what to do.

i have even formated both drives and re-installed them from back-up.

i have a 9210 running firmaware 4.13.

please help

thanks

LauRA you were quick.

thank-you for your prompt reply.

i have enough internal memory i have closed everything down using switcher all i have open is desk, i have over 3000 kb free.

i remember previously i tried using a demo of routeplanner and then deleted this because it did not work. could this cause a problem.

thanks

I've seen this before somewhere, but can't remember where or what - it may come back to me.

Have you installed Route Maps? does this work?

managed to sort it out.

when i placed the cd in the drive the normal GUI came up and i went about installing it from there, but i think there must be a problem with the linking of the GUI to the .sis file since it did not install.

i tried to install it directly from the cd ( where you open the cd-rom drive from my-computer and see what files are contained in the cd-rom) and it worked perfectly.

thanks once again

I'm still having this problem... any other suggestions please?!

If u have MMC reader, copy the .sis file from the CD onto the MMC and then install off the MMC onto the communicator. This will reduce the risk of corruption during the install.

I had a similar problem recently and fixed it by re-installing.

If that doesn't work, try a reformat and then re-install. This will take you more time but has the benefit of ditching any stray files that may have got left hanging around.

HIya

Thanks for the reply. I have tired that, and the reason I am re-installing now is because I have just re-formatted both the MMC card and the communicator. I get the loading screen but then:

Application TomTom citymaps
Reason code KERN-EXEC
Reason number 3.

I've emailed TomTom to see if they can help, however, no reply yet. I'd re-format again if I thought it would do any good but I'm not convinced. Should I?

Also,

I have all the maps on D - does it make a difference where i install the actual program? I've tried both with no luck

Well. I've formatted both C and D so the only thing on the whole device is citymaps - and exactly the same error 😞 😞

Every other application works fine - except this. The strange thing is, it all worked perfect before the format, from exactly the same files installed exactly the same way.

Any help would be appreciated!

roy

Over the last 12 months I have had the apps on both C and D, with the maps always on D. Both ways have worked fine, so it's difficult to see why that would be the cause of your problem. My preference is to have the apps on C, mainly to maximise performance.

When I had my problem with similar (or maybe identical) messages, it occurred in Route Planner every time I tried to zoom in beyond a certain point (about 3 levels from fully zoomed in). That may suggest it is something to do with memory, because you are adding detail every time you zoom in. However, since a simple re-install of Route Planner fixed it for me, it seems more likely to be a software glitch.

Do you get the same problem when you load Route Planner instead of City Maps?

If TomTom won't respond to you, I suggest you try Nokia. The product was bought from them and it is covered by warranty (even if the phone isn't).

it happens on route planner also

I've tried everything I can think of now - not very happy 😞 These things usually sort themselves out if I play long enough but not this time!

Thanks for your help Tomahawk - do u know the correct support address for nokia?

Ah ha.

I found a reply in another thread. It seems this KERN error is very common with many pieces of software, not just tomtom.

Whilst I have been rebooting via the reboot software, I had not been taking out the battery in between uninstall and re-install of the software. I did this - and hey presto - works perfect.

What a relief!

Thanks again

I get that error too... :x

I think the error message means as much as it was a fatal error and the program was shut down. I did suffer this problem with Citymaps at one point, then a few months later when I tried again it worked fine... most odd.

I've got the lam-1 module on my phone as a gift from one of my friends, but thats all I have.
I need the TomTom software to use it as i red in here.

so, any one can help me?
