Hi,
I've been reading about the new firmware, and still am none the wiser about where I can go and definitely get my P800 upgraded to the latest firmware!
Perhaps we could have a thread which lists places people have definitely been to and had their firmware upgraded (preferably whilst they waited ie didn't leave their phone behind, and also for free).
I tried the local Orange shop in Liverpool street station, and they were none the wiser.
The name and address of any place in central London for performing such an upgrade would be most welcome - (I'm on Orange if it makes any difference).
Thanks
JC

Yes, same problem here. I went to the Carphone warehouse in Cheapside and the guy reckoned that they've got all the equipment, but the firmware itself seems to be the problem. Wasn't sure that I believed him, but hey, what can you do?
I walked past SE's new Marketing building in Hammersmith the other day, decided to pop in and asked them if they have a service department. The girl (very nice blonde, maybe from Sweden?) gave me the number for SE in the UK and advised me to phone them and ask where I'll be able to find a service centre that can perform the upgrade.
Now, I'll be honest here, I've just been too lazy to phone them (and wait for half an hour on the phone), but here's the number if someone else wants to try : 08705 237 237.
Hope it helps and good luck.
There are two places in North London one in Barnet (called intec) and there is one in Tottenham. Also there is one in New Eltham (SE9) call Fleet Communications. Otherwise you have to post it. Carphone Warehouse are not authorised to do it (weird) they said it will invaildate your warranty. Take your receipt.

Big CPW on Oxford street alos has it - they won't do Orange or T-Mobile though as it has not passed the tests with those telcos yet.
I had my firmware upgraded at the Hayes center in West London. Fast and efficient, what else can you say?
Here's the service website;

I popped down there this afternoon (just me + phone, no receipts) and got it flashed. It took 40 minutes. - Be warned, there's not much to do in New Eltham!!! - Buy a magazine or newspaper!
So is there anything available in Central London? What about the one in Oxford Street that somenone suggested? I phoned SE today and they suggested going to Berkshire (Slough)!!! I live in Ealing for God's sake! Anyway, since I haven't got a car, I'm really interested in anything that is in walking distance from Tube stations and so on. Any suggestions?
Thanks
I upgraded mine in wood green. Sonyericsson data support (08705-237237 option 4 are the most knowledgeable dept for all P800 questions) tell you the closest service centre to where you are. Installation took an hour, very efficient, obviously back-up first as you lose everything. I wondered if the staff at the shop could answer a few simple questions I had on P800 operation. "You're joking, mate, that's a 500 phone," was the reply. "No-one here can afford one." I pointed out I got mine free on a cheap deal at Phones-4-U and that they should hassle SE for a free one so they could advise customers. I've not found any shop anywhere with staff who know how to use advanced P800 functions. And I had to laugh when I looked in Loot last week and saw all the P800's for sale with comments like "can't work out how to use it." I'm in Camden; if a few folks in the London area want to meet up somewhere reaonably close to swap a few pints and tips, I'm happy to do so. Camden Brewing Company in Randolph St is quiet, roomy and good atmosphere. I use Mac iBook running OSX 10.2.6 networked with an old IBM Thinkpad for sundry duties like syncing P800 and p2p.

Ealing Broadway to Slough (mainline) train runs every half an hour, journey time of less than half an hour (unless you get the high speed which is about 15 mins). Probably just as quick as going to Oxford street on tube. Berkshire/Slough is not the other side of the earth (although some of the people are from a different planet!). Only six miles from Heathrow!
I assume SE are referring to the Sony Centre in the High Street (can't think of any other) which is a 3-4 minute walk from the station.
Incidently they also have 64Mb MS Duo's in stock for 64, which is cheaper than Expansys etc on the web. 😊
