Has the new software upgrade actually improved the p800? What I mean is I had one but took it back for the following reasons, it only has 160 charecters when writting a email, the camera takes crap photos at night, theres no video capture, theres no delivary reports and last but not least that crashing and losing applications problem. Has all this changed? It would be a good phone if didnt have these downsides for my use. Does anyone know?
Whats with the p800?
Funky
I haven't upgraded yet (apparently Orange haven't OK'ed the upgrade in the UK) but I can write emails longer than 160 characters - do you mean SMS? If so this is the standard SMS limit across all networks and phones (some phones get around this by creating two messages when the limit is reached as the P800 does).
As to the rest of your requirements I believe the upgrade does improve all but the video (which I expect to be plugged by a third party shortly now that the video plug in is available). There is a night mode for the camera and delivery reports for SMS. Several posts have also said that it is much more stable after the upgrade as well 😃
Hope this helps cheers
Jago
Jago thanks! Yes I did mean 160 charecters, it was that with the p800 I had maybe theres an option that I didnt see but with other people that have a p800 that email me they have to send me 3 emails so they can actually say what they want haha. This is a basic thing and I would of expected more charecters! My nokia 7210 does 800 odd and phones like a sharp gx1 does a 1200, its basic isnt it. Hmm by what you said the phone is sounding better and when its sorted out I would go and buy the phone again. Improvement is what it needs! With the delivary reports that is so basic aswell, it should of been better than that at the start in my opinion
Dont forget, full screen video playback, and i really dont thing that the p800 is ilimited in 160 characters for e-mail,SMS yes.
How many charecters isit suposed to have then? Maybe theres a option there to change how many??? It doesnt make sense though when numerous p800 users have to send three emails to actually say what they want too hmm

Well, what firmware version do you currently have??? Perhaps it was a restriction in one of the first firmware versions...
I haven't experienced the problem either BTW
Could you tell me please exactley how many charecters you have when writing a email? And I think the software that p800 has was RD1 if thats what you wanted to know. I mean you must also think as I do that 160 charecters is poor for doing a email. A (limited to what can do phone) like the sharp gx1 has over a thousand, now that is more like it and I would expect that at least from such a phone as the p800. P.S I BLOODY HOPE THE NIGGLES ARE SORTED SOON SO I CAN GO AND BUY IT AGAIN*:O) what a disaster it was when I first got it.
Funky,
RE: 160 character limit sending e-mail
The P800 has no such limit.
Funky, I have personally sent e-mails with well over 2,000 characters, and this was with an original (Swedish) P800 purchased in December 2002 before getting the firmware updated. The P800 will also chain SMS messages together so you can send 320, 480, etc. character SMS messages.
So overall, I think you might have sold your P800 before you worked out how to use it?!
I am 68 and it certainly took me some time to master the P800, but between the manual and its index I certainly understood that SMS is limited to 160 characters, but email is certainly not. You keep harping on that item surely you could have called SE Customer Support or sent an email. It is the most amazing mobile device available, while SE support clearly does not have its act together, the P800 does.
I never sold my p800 I took it back for a full refund because as I said I wasnt happy with all thoughs downsides. If the p800 I had wasnt limited to 160 in writing emails why isit I couldnt write more than that after the 160 and why isit people in other forums with p800's say "Yes I have to write 3 emails because I cant fit it into one because they have run out of charecters" just the same as I did. Something isnt right here it must be another software fault. I have no regrets on taking the phone back because I couldnt justify the price with thoughs numerous downsides for my use. I would and will get the phone if I know it will be improved. It wouldnt surprize me if the p800 becomes a p800i with video capture and sold with it already like that, thats what it needs with whats going on with 3g phones and to send it as mms
Funky, you might consider the fact that you and the couple of users with this problem didn't read the manual and missused the p800.
BTW:Video capture program is being developed as we speak and might pop up anytime now.
Looks like we just got ourselves yet another troll in this forum, there's at least one every two weeks.
How many times do we have to tell you that there's no such thing as a 160 character limit in the P800 e-mail client?! Not in the first firmware version, nor in the later. You are the first person here to bring up this "issue". If you and your "friends" did infact have this problem, there must be a restriction with your e-mail provider or something(which is also very unlikely).
Either that, or this quote may apply to you, your "friends", and all the "other people in other forums";

I'm certainly not going to try to convince you to buy a P800, they're not for everyone, you'd probably be better off with a less advanced phone anyway.
reason why u all having problem and aslo no report deliver on R1D but i have p800 with R2D new software upgradge which can send more than 160 message and also can get report deliver too and improve better quilaity picture i will never give up on my p800 as i have nokia 7650 before i love p800 more than nokia7650 cos it have 28mb also can get 128 mb soon i,ll never sell my p800
i upgraded my P800 to R2D..!! but the camera ddidnt really get improved..just night mode..
After the upgrade, R2D, I find the pictures are of a much better quality now. I like the picture application coz you can view them in wide-full screen mode.
I got the file manager installed after going through this forum but I notice the battery drain slightly faster after the upgrade (battery life lasts about 2.5 days) with virtually no usage at all on the phone.
Overall, I'm very happy happy with the software upgrade coz I know some users here can have their battery drained in just few hours time!
Hehe... Getting a little sick of hearing about all this upgrading hysteria..
My P800 is still running on the first commercial firmware version(R1B), and I have no problems what so ever.
I get 1 day of battery life with extremely heavy use, 2 days with heavy use, 3 days with average use, 4 days with moderate use, and 5 days with minimal use.
I won't bother uprading untill there's some, what I consider to be, important changes(like UIQ 2.1).
"If it works well, why fix it?" 😃
Funky, are you sure you HAD a p800? i mean, there is no such thing as a 160 character limit in the p800 for email. for sms maybe, but the p800 automatically divides the long sms into mutiple messages and these are automatically relinked into the original long sms.
next time you buy an expensive phone, READ the manual please.
why the @#$% would SE make a phone with a 160 character limit?
why the @#$% would SE make a phone with a 160 character limit?
Well, they made one with no T9 support... 😃 (I'm joking, before everyone kills me btw.. 😊 I know why there's no T9..)
