Hi all,
Is there a way to get this IDE ?
I found no trial download on metrowerks website !
Thanx

I downloaded for nothing something that describes itself in help->about as "CodeWarrior IDE Version 4.3.0.891". I only d/l this last night just before I went to bed and I haven't had the opportunity to play with it yet, but I believe it's just a Java IDE so you couldn't develop C++ apps with it.

A developer friend of mine pointed me here:

You have to join the MOTOCODER Program, but all you have to do is provide your personal details. Then you have to fill in a survey for Metrowerks and bingo, you get a full licence for nothing.

That IDE you get when you join motocoder is useless. It's for Java development only (pJava & MIDP). If I want an IDE for pJava & MIDP development, I'd use Borland's or Sun's IDE.

I don't think there is a downloadable trial, however a trail version appears to be included on the CD of the new Symbian C++ book due to be published 22 May. Book looks good if you are not yet very familiar with Symbian C++.

Er, yes I did say that it was just for Java in my post. Are the IDEs from Borland and Sun free?

Actually you said
but I believe it's just a Java IDE so you couldn't develop C++ apps with it
so I merely confirmed that yes, it's just for Java. Sun's and Borland's IDEs are free. Personally I use Sun One Studio (formerly known as Forte) for everything Java related.

When Java was first invented (yes, I'm that old) I did use the Sun IDE (which wasn't free at the time, but wasn't bad) but I've never used any Borland product.

I shall have a look at the other two but being from a Unix background, I am biased in favour of Sun. I did try installing the SE SDK on my Linux laptop, but the documentation was non-existant for Linux and all the Linux howtos/tutorials seemed to have small but significant variations. I ended up having installed it (correctly I think) but not being able to compile anything because I didn't know how to use bldmake or makmake.

I do quite like Java, but I've always thought that it is a bit of a Noddy language compared to C (I have to confess, I've never really liked C++).

Hmmm... so far so bad. My ISP must be having a problem as I haven't been able to access any Sun site for the last 20 hours, how irritating.
