Is there away to increase our signal? I know on the Nokia phones there is, but when you do so the battery runs out faster. I want to activate this everytime when I'm home and the phone is on the cradle since the signal is very weak 😞
Increase Network Signal?
If there isnt a way then maybe someone can point me out an external antenna module for the P800 😞 The gold round thingy at the back is for the antenna but there isnt one available 😞
good call, i get pretty bad reception with my phone. I don't understand why there is support for an external antenna, when SE doesn't offer an antenna.
Yes you are absolutely right...this is the only major problem with the P800... ( & of course T9)
I really thought that after this software upgrade the network reception would improve...but the same old..same old... 😞
i don't know what u got! i have a very good reception here in zurich! no matter where i go! maybe it depends on ur provider?? ( just a thought )

No that's not true. I had a Nokia 7210 (those were the dark days.. :fadein: ) with the same provider, and the reception of the nokia was better! The P800 does beat my T68(i) with the same provider though!
Besides, you apparently live in a big city like Zurich, reception is always ok in big city. Up in the high mountains or in a small village it's not that good...
hmmm... i also had the 7650 and there were places where i'm always at and i had very bad reception and now my P800 has a better reception than the 7650!! i don't really know where the problem is.

Well, the 7650 isn't really famous for its good reception though.... Or perhaps you were just lucky, getting a high quality P800
If only they could make a portable antenna that we could use when we are in these low signal zones 😊
@Delta737
he he maybe you're right! got a high quality P800! one is imported though! couldn't wait for the release date in switzerland!!
I must have a good P800 too... it gets good signals all over the place, often where other phones fail.
The joys of good Quality Control eh?
😮
Me too!!
I also got one of the 'high quality' P800, works faaking brilliant - LOL!!
*Where i had problems with reception in my area with my Nokia 8310, it's been fixed by the P800. And everyone I phone, always asks me if I'm phoning from a land line. So there you go.

Well, to be honest the 8310 is actually one of the WORST phones when it comes to reception. Compare it with a Samsung (S100, S300, V200 or something) and you'll notice they're better than the P800
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the P800 is that worse, but it's just not the best out there...
PS, I called someone once for 20 minutes with only 1 or 2 bars of reception, and at the end of the call I told him I phoned him with my mobile phone, and he said he hadn't noticed 😃
Well i actually think the P800 has good reception. A few days ago my brother and i went to one of those remote out of town places. He was complaining that his 7650 doesnt have any signal while i was still able to receive a call with my P800. We both use the same network. He ended up using my fone 😊
I think the original post was about turning EFR on/off
AFAIK it doesn't acctually increase the signal strength as such, but it uses more power to transmit the outgoing signal to counteract degradation on route to the cellular base station. [I could be wrong on that]
I haven't heard of this "switch" on SE phones, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's automatic if it's there at all.
Looks like my P800 is the worst one ever made 😮
But I've tried 4 P800s before, they are the same :-?
When I had a T68m (on Orange in the UK) I had terrible, terrible problems. Times when for a week I would have no signal. After many irrate calls to Orange they finally admitted a base down. Odd when my partners Nokia 8310 had full signal...
Technical explained that different phones connect to different base stations even if they are right next to each other. It's not necessarily the closest to you - this is done on the IMEI and is highly correlated with the manufacturer. He explained there were lots of problems with Sony Ericsson phones in my area, but Nokia, which generally connected to a different base station were fine.
He agreed this was crazy that there was no fall back when base stations were at reduced service or were down.
While I'm not sure he was 100% correct, I mean - no fallback whatever? Hello. I don't think so, there is probably an element of truth in his statement and would certainly explain why on one phone you get very good reception, and on another you get poor reception - the second phone may attach to a base station which is further away, or is a lower power signal.
Yes thats it, the EFR thingy. As I recall, the Nokia 8250 was the phone that had the strongest signal ever. The rest were just normal, and not super. My house just has bad signal, both nokia and the P800 dont have much signal here. My sister has the 6510, my dad has the 7250, my mom has the T68i, and our extra phone, which is a 6210 all have terrible signal 😞 So all I need really is an external antenna 😊
Up in the high mountains ... it's not that good...
Is this a big problem in Holland then 😉 .
hey Muzikfreakah, it looks like we are having the same probs. I live in the US and use T-mobile. I have really poor reception in my house. I just switched from a nokia 7210 which did get better reception. Is it possible that a compact external antenna could be released for the phone.
Im going to a hardware shop tom to check out there antennas.. maybe this connector plug that we need is just standard amongst all kinds of antennas.. I hope I find one.
My first P800 had terrible signal. I took it back and got another one which was fine. Could be a faulty phone.

Not really, but as you can see, I was responding to a message of a Swiss person, so that's why I mentioned that 😃
The highest mountain here in Holland is about 300 metres :fadein:

Like I said, all the other phones that enter this signal sucking house house doesnt have good signal so it couldnt be becauseof faulry phones...
I get better signal strength with my P800 then with my previous N7650 and T68, but not as good as my previous Samsung S100..
I'm guessing that having an external antenna is still better(reception-wise) then a built-in one.
I would think that it is possible to get hold of an external antenna for the P800. If I remember correctly, the external antenna hole is the same as my old T39, so perhaps you can get one that's made for the T39, Musicfreakah..
I got some info and posted on this thread:

So im going antenna hunting.
I figure this is the kind of antenna that we need:
