Pause doesn't work in video player

When I press pause in the built-in video player, it appears to pause, but when I tap on the play button it always starts back at the beginning of the video. This is not very useful.

Is this just me or doesn't the pause function work?

I have also this same experience. It seems that if you watch a video you have to finish it in one sitting. No chance to start where you left off. Very irritating sometimes 😞

by the way i just noticed that while playing a video(MP4), if you press forward, its fast forwards 3seconds.

thats good

I'm on R2D.

You can't press pause again, it's only there when the video is running.

When you press FF, it skips forward 3s unless you hold it down for a while in which case it skips 20s at a time. It still take a long time to FF through a longish clip.

...now let's hope they will finally put a FF and RWD button in the audio player as well... :-?

I paused the 1.18 minute long Matrix 2 trailer, and it resumed fine when I pressed play again.... I have R2D

Is it possible that is dependent on which video is playing? The ones I have noticed the problem with are reasonably long clips like the Simpsons episodes that Raven has kindly put up on his site.

I shall try a few others.

@Delta737

You are right, we really could do with more features in these media players, they are incredibly basic. I wouldn't have thought that putting << and >> buttons in the audio player could really be all that difficult. Perhaps they are trying to leave the market open for aftermarket software.

Hmm.. I haven't noticed this myself. I use pause quite often when I play those long clips, because the sound will sometimes go out of sync during those long clips, so I pause and restart, which sometimes helps when the audio is starting to lag.. Never had any problems restarting after a pause.

Could you tell me exactly which clip you were playing when this happened, and I will try it myself.

This has happened with all the clips I have tried it with, but then I haven't tried it with that many.

To be specific, "The Simpsons - s14e08 (EABF03) - The Dad Who Knew too Little Frank2.mp4"

I have just tried it and when I press the pause button it says Paused but the timer on the right hand side of the status shows 00:00/21:54 and when I pressed the play button it started at the beginning again.

Hmm... this is getting weird, I've just tried again (this is three minutes after I wrote the above para) and something different is happening to what I had thought.

The timer only appears to update periodically. It stays at 00:00 for thirteen seconds, then jumps to 00:13. If I attempt to pause during this period, it jumps back to the start. However, after that, the timer still jumps but the pause function does seem to work properly (ie even if the timer has been stuck at 00:26 for ten seconds, it restarts at the correct place, it doesn't jump back to 00:26)

I tried with the South Park Star Wars parody which does seem to be doing the same thing only it jumps 6 or 7 seconds at a time not 13.

The first time I noticed the pause problem was about two thirds of the way through another Simpsons video (I think it was the Half Decent Proposal one) so it has happened other than at the beginning.

Can the other p800ers who had this problem let me know whether it was only at the beginning of the videos or later on.
