My P800 has been crashing - now it won't switch on.

Symptoms:

- crashes to a full screen icon of the phone's power switch with a 10 second timer next to it, meaning hold the power button in for 10 seconds to turn it off. This flashes to a '!' on a yellow triangle.

- happens any time, day or night, whether I'm using the phone or not.

- today the phone will not turn on. it will not now detect that it is being charged, although the docking unit's green light is on so it has power and is recognising that the phone is docked.

- For your info, the phone spends a lot of it's time going in-and-out of signal as I live in a basement flat where the signal is intermittent. Is this bad for it?

If anyone could suggest reasons for this or ways to fix it then I'd be most greatful!

cheers,
Paul.

I notice the yellow '!' / 10 second screen is a usual crash for people on this forum, so I may format everything as soon as I can get the damn thing to switch on!

Now it's connected to the charger and at last I have a red light on the top of the phone. No battery charging symbol on the screen though and it still won't switch on.

grrr...

I notice high baterry use before it crash, now all is OK,

Pauly, take the phone back to the shop - it's as simple as that.

Pauly, you might want to try this. Take the battery out and put it back and switch on.

If you cannot turn it on try taking the battery and the sim card out. If this doesn't work there's always a SE service point near you. 😃
The fact that you live in a basement doesn't have anything to do with it. 8)

I had the same problem, so di a couple of other people, theres a thread somewhere. It just has to be replaced, i got mine done with orange, it was same day, this one hasnt done it!

Mine did exactly the same the other day - it crashed while I was surfing with it, and then wouldn't turn on.

Removing the battery didn't make the blindest bit of difference.

Eventually, I found out it WOULD turn on, but REALLY slowly - and I mean REALLY slowly.

But I couldn't really do anything much with it even then - most applications just wouldn't run, and the main ones, such as messages, just said that the disk was full.

Eventually, after turning it off and back on again, it complained that the disk was corrupt and it was going to have to reformat it. After reformatting it, I had a VERY empty phone - complete with the standard sonyericsson startup and shutdown animations that had always been overridden by the Orange ones. I then restored it from my backup and it's been fine since then.

Of course, if you really CAN'T get it to come back on at all, you're not going to be able to get it to do a complete reset by any means...

Mine did come on once and do the sloooooooooooow thing, but then it gave up before i got it to do anything. I wasnt that fussed that i had to get it replaced cos i had chipped it in two places. 😃

Leaving on a basement will make your battery run faster, but I wouldn't think it would make it malfunction. Oh! the battery will run faster because whenever reception fluctuates too much the phone becomes active in tryibg to stabilize itself. I'm not sure but they may mention this on the booklet.
