What makes repligo different or better than the built in viewer? I think what we need is more on the editor side 😞
Repligo Vs Viewer
Neither allows you to edit files on the P800
RepliGO involves converting files, then sending them to your phone, whereas Viewer does it's best to display files in their existing format.
RepliGO looks like it does a better job of rendering the document as it was intended to be seen, but I don't want the hassle of converting files before loading them.
Still waiting for QuickOffice from Cesinc
chris - do you know the release date for QuickOffice?
Thanks
Quickoffice will probably be the best 😊
There isn't a release date yet, but one of their developers made the mistake of mentioning it as a possible project. He asked if people were interested in it and his mailbox got flooded for days!
They wrote QuickOffice for Palm, and porting it to the P800 should just be a 5 minute job 😃 (joking!)
I cant find the guys email address, do a search in this forum and you'll find it.
[run for cover] Send him an email and ask how he's getting on! [/run for cover]
Send him an email and ask how he's getting on!
You really know how to make your self popular - perhaps we should offer to Beta test it for them too!
Thanks for the reply though
Just stumbled on this:
Cutting Edge Software http://www.cesinc.com tell me that:"We are considering the UIQ interface of the P800. The limiting factor at this point is the volume of units being sold, relative to the success of the 7650/3650 in the marketplace... We are watching closely.
Thanks for your input!! We do keep track!"
So if you want to see QuickOffice on your P800, email

I would encourage you to try the product. There is a free 14-day trial at http://www.cerience.com/downloads/index.php
RepliGo does an excellent job of preserving the look of a document, whether it be MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, HTML, etc. The built-in viewer reads files natively (which is nice) but cannot always maintain the integrity of the document.
RepliGo can handle virtually any document type you have since it is (in part) based on printer driver technology. Essentially, if your desktop application supports printing (which most do), then you can put information through RepliGo and view it on your phone.
RepliGo offers a reflowed view of your documents, which eliminates side-to-side scrolling when trying to read documents. Text is wrapped to fit your screen.
RepliGo compresses documents (greater than 50%), making it possible to carry hundreds of documents on your phone. Internally, we have had over 1600 RepliGo files on a single 64MB memory card.
Finally, RepliGo files are portable. If you have a friend with a Palm, Pocket PC, MS Smartphone or Series 60 device, you can easily share documents with that person. Our viewers are free on those platforms
So why are they free on those platforms and not on ours  I mean, well you know what I mean!

The viewers are free for use on all platforms, even the P800. The conversion software is $24.95. I was describing a scenario where one person could convert a document and others could also use it on their device with a free viewer.
AAHHHHH!
Well I guess I feel better now 😃

Now this part I like. But they also have to buy the Repligo for there unit right? 😊

No, the viewers are free. We are working on separating these out of our main products so they may be downloaded and installed separately.

even cooler. Will try out the demo 😊
@davef
I assume you work for RepliGO, or are involved in the development somewhere along the line.
I can see some benefits, especially in sharing between different platforms, but I don't like the way so many new formats/standards pop-up offering very little in the way of new features/functionality.
Not meaning to belittle your product/efforts, but... effectively it's equivalent to PDF but with better rendering. We still can't edit, and the conversion process is still a manual process run on each file you want to transfer.
If you want to improve it (IMHO) find a way to convert documents automatically as they are transferred to the device. Allow editing and you have yourself a little gold mine.
Just my 2 cents
Ok, at first I thought it would automatically transfer the file to the phone but it didnt. I found the file and transfered it manually. I made a folder n the Memory Stick and copied it there. When I opened repligo viewer on the P800 it cant find it. 😞 How come?

Yes, I do work for Cerience and work on RepliGo.
Thanks for the great feedback. Automatic conversion and transfer is a highly request feature with our previous products. We will strive to improve in this area going forward.
Editing is also a highly requested feature. This one is a little bit harder to solve, especially given the fact we try to preserve the exact look and layout of any document we convert.

Automatic transfer of documents to the phone is something we are looking at incorporating into the product.
In the mean time, after you transfer the RepliGo document to your phone, you may need to change the category you are viewing while looking at the list of documents. This is the drop-down that shows up on the right-hand side of the bar right above the document list. If your folder is not listed, you may have to choose "Edit folders" to add it.
If you think you are pointed at the right category (you might try "All" to pick up everything), then try closing RepliGo and restarting it. Please let us know what you find and if there is some sort of problem we are not aware of.
I already did those other stuff that you said. I placed it in a specific folder named "Repligo" inside the documents folder on the MS.
The restart part did solve the problem 😊 I can see the file now. Problem is I dont know how it chopped down my excel file 😞 You see, I hvae a company pricelist which has around 20 sheets and it sheet would use around 8 Columns and 20-100 rows. When I open the first sheet or Page 1 on repligo, it only shows me the first few columns, and the succeeding columns, it has converted it to other pages. Do you get what I mean? In other words, it didnt replicate my exact file but instead chopped it down 😞 Am I doing something wrong?

I think I understand the Excel problem. It sounds like you have a workbook with multiple sheets, each having a large amount of information. If you use the RepliGo toolbar button in Excel to do the conversion, you get automatic conversion. For files like yours, I would suggest you customize the conversion by using Excel's File > Page Setup dialog and get the document "Print Previewing" exactly like you'd like to see it on your P800. Then choose Excel's File > Print command to print the Excel document to the RepliGo printer. Hopefully, this will allow you to see the information in a more desirable format.
Please let me know how things turn out...
Thanks davef 😊 By the way that was me who posted. St@rr was using my desktop and I didnt notice that she was logged in so I simply posted away! 😊 Will try out your suggestions 😊

It sounds like you already figured out the directory situation with RepliGo, but I thought I'd just clarify in case anyone is wondering.
RepliGo is consistent with the P800's "Media files" organization. So on an English P800 it looks for documents in all sub-directories of these directories:
C:\documents\Media files\document
D:\Media files\document
If, within RepliGo, you choose "Edit folders" and create a new folder name, that folder will be created in the aforementioned directories depending on whether you choose internal or external.
When using the PC Suite software to access the P800 (the desktop My P800 icon), it hides this directory structure from you, but this is handy to know if you use a third party application like PC File Manager, or plug your Duo stick into an external card reader.
Thanks for the tip jbm! Keep uop the Good work! Btw, I did solve my problem by customozing the view of each sheet in the entire worksheet 😊 Its very tiring though, hope one day there would be a way to automatically do this, maybe we can just have a window which will ask us how many columns and rows do we want to see on each page and it will do that for all sheets 😊
Just a suggestion.
Cheers!

Do I understand this right... when you convert the document you are effectively "printing" it to a file.
So if I convert a single spreadsheet from a workbook I can't do it as one large file and scroll around in RepliGO. I have to format it to "print" over several pages?
Also... Can you print in Landscape and see wide/short documents?
BTW - @davef - Thanks for listening to the feedback. It's good to know that, even if you can't give us all we want NOW, you are taking it in.[/b]

Yes, you are understanding the conversion process. Essentially, information from ANY application can be printed to the RepliGo printer and it is viewable on your P800.
With Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet Explorer, we have a more direct integration and provide a toolbar button. This helps us do smarter conversion, but is essentially relying on the same printing technology.
If you want to customize what your document looks like, you can typically adjust this with paper size/orientation changes in your application (e.g., Excel), do a Print Preview to make sure you like what you see, and then print away to the RepliGo printer.
Hope this helps...

Sorry if this has been asked already but I cannot find the answer, is there a PC viewer and a MAC viewer available? Are they free too? The reason I ask is that it's all well and fine exchanging files amongst Palm, Pocket PC, MS Smartphone or Series 60 device users but can the files also be shared with those who do not have such devices. If I converted a file, carried it around with me, then wanted to forward on to someone via email, could I include a link to where one could download a viewer (as you can when using pdf's)?

We have a Windows viewer in Beta right now. We're also investigating a Mac one. The scenario you describe is exactly the type of thing we'll be encouraging. A release coming later this month will provide links to freely downloadable viewers.

That would certainly make repligo a far more attractive option, for me at least. I'll keep an eye out.
Thanks
Anybody that hasn't tried Repligo should!
I was trying to use the built in viewers but their reformatting of the document rendered them to be useless, such as spreadsheets or tabbed Word docs were all over the place.
Not only that reading Acrobat files was near to useless, the original fonts were replaced and the speed of opening them was dreadful. I had a London Tube map Acrobat File from the Tube website, it took 4 minutes to open and every time I moved the image it took another 4 minutes to update.
I saw on the news here about Repligo's release gave it a trial and immediately bought it. The converted tube map opened in seconds and perfectly. I now have my companies 30 page A4 price list on my P800 (the original was from Quark Xpress). I have multiple spreadsheets, reference manuals etc. All opening virtually in seconds, keeping their original format and on top of all that the file sizes are all compressed from their original.
Anybody knocking this program has neither tried it or tried the in-built viewers or has absolutely no need for viewing PC docs on their P800. It's an A* program, and no I do not work for Repligo, just a really happy end-user.
