Using the latest 1.5 PC Suite I now at last have all my PC Outlook contacts (and I mean ALL) also on the P800. This leaves some dupes, stuff imported from SIM and older versions that can now be deleted on the phone... HOWEVER how do I know which 'J Smith' to delete on the phone as I want to delete the older versions that have been superceded by any editing and multi field additions in Outlook. Knowing which one to scrub will ensure that I dont re-load stuff from Outl;ook at the next hook up; if I have deleted the wrong dupe Outlook will think its missing from the phone and add it again - so I end up with more than one J Smaith again!
Does that make sense 😊
If it was ONLY possible to copy numbers and e mail addresses from one contact to another on the phone it would be easy! The PC Remote prog fails big time here as I see it too...
D - trying to get organised!
Why dont u just delete everything from ur phone empy it total and then do a sync again and tel the sync to keep all items in computer and override in phone??

OK, so is it possible to file many contacts at once into a P800 folder?
ie, put all the contacts into 'business' without having to do it one-by-one!
(disclaimer: I have searched the forum for this)
Dont think thats possible to do this all at ones but u never know someone else might have done it one way or another

Guest No1 one - that sounds like a good suggestion. I will need some bravery to delete everything in the phone (even after a backup) in case I lose some contacts which might make me lose a best friend I promised to call back :agrue:
Guess I'll start cross referencing the entries manually to make sure the PC & Phone are identical 😮 !
CHEERS!

Good luck and if u think something went wrong or what ever and just need to put ur contacts back u always can unzip the last backup take out the contacts.cdb from the backup and copy it back to ur system\data\ on the phone

just force sync
If you wanna read on how to migrate the Address Book from Palm to Outlook I posted instructions after getting it done yesterday.
Well if you wanna read my horror story of sync attempts with Outlook here's my full post: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12972
I posted full instructions on how I did achieve to migrate my contacts (address book) without using Outlook!
Arghhh - its all gone WRONG!!! :-? Contacts now will not open - flashes up a very quick 'not enough memory' error. Have made space (6MB free on each memory) deleted the whole contacts database on phone and forced sync to the PC contacts again...with no luck.
It is big - 1200 entries, but it opened fine before - something changed overnight! Have deleted that contacts managing downloaded prog too - that never worked quite right or ran properly...
Short of a restore of my previous dodgy contacts (pre this nice sync up one I WAS boasting about 😮ops: ) what can I do? Have tried the usual battery out resets too?
Thanks
Diesele
I've had the same 'Not enough Memory' (When there blatently is!) problem, it is caused by the file becoming corrupted rather than too large. After several attempts at trying to change back up files using winzip etc and several weeks back and forward to both the SE and Orange technical help I couldn't fix it!
The only way I could do it was a reset and re-synch my contacts (and reload all apps etc). Although I didn't have a working backup so you may be luckier if you just revert to your last working backup!
Good luck!
Jago
Diesele make a copy of ur last backupfile and unzip like i said in previuos mail and put ur contacts.cdb file back with filemanger or anything like that
wil work fine or indeed like Jago said total clean and new sync like in my first reply........

Thanks Jago (in a way 😃 ). Now how do I do the master reset? Feel like using a bucket of water! Is there a mini switch or is it a sequence/hold a button for 2 hours 😃
Thanks for your help.

Control panel -> Master reset
Diesele, stop and rest your german soul for a moment... if you are just trying to delete all contacts at once there is this other solution I've read about:
CONTACTS CONTROL
http://my-symbian.com/uiq/applications/applications.php?fldAuto=194&faq=2
All entries of the contacts database are displayed in a list and can be selected and if necessary be deleted.
Hope this helps.
Mr NYC - danke fur mein top tip! That program runs a little clonky on my P800 (blank screens for minutes on end etc) and takes a few attempts to do what it says in the printout! I dont trust it basically! I have a sneaky suspicion it unecessarily deletes some folders and that confuses the issue and would probably be best left alone (maybe the root of this problem???). Seems there is no way to UNselect a few folders & things once the prog has 'selected all'. This is just a hunch though!
Phone today is resting at home in the kitchen charging - dohhhhh!!!!
D
Kein problem Diesele!
I downloaded the software and tried it and I experienced what you say (slow, buggy). I didn't use it to delete contacts and it seemed to me also that some contacts were internal system entries not supposed to be deleted, but at least it's a good way to know how many contacts you have, should you care to know. One thing I have to say is that on my P800 if you select all you can unselect items separately...
Gutt news is that its all back up and working now - forced sync to Outlook 5 mins ago (and luckily had no new entries on phone to be deleted) AND THE 3 DAY SAGA IS OVER - I may once again call my mates and do business!
Firmware upgrade sounds like a day off work to get it done on the day, but that is next...
Cheers
